had this an meddle on in the car last night, simply orgasmic

    Overhead the albatross
    Hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
    In labyrinths of coral caves
An echo of a distant time
    Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine.

They are vastly underrated if anything. An amazing, adventurous band. They're not my favourite band but I can't think of another band that can even come close to producing the same great erethral atmosphere. Hats off to Pink Floyd!

Ha ha, I watched Pompeii the other night and it was wonderful; however the kids got me Dave Gilmour live at Gdansk(2dvd and 3cd pack) for Christmas, it is in its wrapper now under the tree...... I am literally salivating!

Ah you can't beat a bit of Floyd in the evening :p

They're an amazing band. They have to have some of the most atmospheric songs around. They just have an element that makes them incredible.

All in all they just have some really powerful songs

shine on you crazy diamond, pt5-9, 3mins 28 secs in and Gilmour makes that guitar start talking:cool:

Ah, the Gdansk show is brilliant alright! Did you see the highlights programme on BBC4 -or was it Sky Arts? - a few weeks ago?
Very poignant to see one of Rick Wright's last shows.

Watched Pulse on Saturday night right enough, I never tire of that show. Probably the ultimate classic rock performance. I was lucky enough to be there 2 nights at Earls Court.

Had the house to myself for a while on Sunday too, so my boot of the original Wall show from '79 good a good airing too! :)

    A most exquisite band....

    Never tire of the music!

what do ya's think of the Final Cut, some very good songs on that?

Not my favourite, and I suspect not many people's favourite really.

A few decent songs, Gunners Dream maybe the best of them.

But Rogers' political rants were getting a bit tiresome by that stage, and the whole album had a feel of "contractual obligation" about it. I reckon they were all glad when it was over.

Yeah I agree but musically I think it is great - like Fletcher Memorial and the final cut..

But of course never compare to Shine on or Comfotably numb !!

    pre wall floyd = awesome
    post wall floyd = boooooooooring

even the wall itself bores me to tears. Give me their more experimental psychedelic stuff any day than another roger waters 'boo hoo my dad died in the war now im gonna whinge about it on a few albums' snoozefest. Live at pompeii is still the best thing they ever did IMO

Great band. One of the best there ever will be, IMO

However, they are nothing without Waters. Gilmour is a great guitarist and vocalist, but his stuff from when he took the helm and his own solo stuff is extremely poor in comparison, IMO

I loved The Wall, following the kids life and the progression as it moved on from song to song. One of my favourite albums of all time.
Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the
promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue
    sky?

They had some memorable LP covers, and what about some of their song titles......Careful with that axe Eugene lol!

I remember now how i got intrested in them, there was a Pink Floyd weekend on MTV, was around the time The Division Bell tour and was at a mates he had a free gaf all weekend and on the saturday night there was a few beers sunk and a good few spliffs going round and somebody flicked on to MTV

They were showing Delicate sound of Thunder and we caught the last few songs and i was blown away by the spectacle of the gig and Gilmours guitar playing, the rest they say is history,

I slowly bought all their albums and i liked all of them..........i even went and bought the quadrophonic Dark Side of the Moon LP even though i could never listen to it. All part of the legend of The Pink Floyd :)

There is absolutely nothing I don't adore about them. I only recently listened to Piper at the gates of Dawn after buying it aaaaaages ago. I nearly went mad just listening to it, it had such a weird effect on me.... The Wall must be my favourite movie of all time. Man....they're just amaaaaaazing.

And David Gilmour is most certainly the greatest guitarist ever. Watch the last solo, it's

seen them 7 times now I think, and will be seeing them again in April.

This is the band Dave Gilmour hired for the end-of-pulse-tour party

You can't really get a much higher recommendation than that!
Floyd have given them bits & pieces of stage equipment in the past, & they even have 2 of the old Floyd roadies working with them now.

If you get the chance to see them - don't miss out!

ps They have a live DVD out, not sure where you'd get it other than their website. www.aussiefloyd.com

As a regular concert goer Ive never been enticed to go and see tribute acts. However, Ive heard such good reports about the Aussie Floyd, Im gonna go this time. The fact the Wall is played in full sealed it for me.

    You'll be glad you did.
If your eyes are just glassy enough that you can't make out the bands' faces, you'll think it's the real thing. Or as near as you can get to it anyway.

The only tribute band I've seen more than once.

any time the australian pink floyd show comes to Dublin i'm there, fantastic act.

went to floyd in 1994, pulse tour, chantilly race course in paris. unbelievable is the only words i can put on it. there was a thunder storm with sheet lightning as they were about to start and it really could have been part of the show.

like someone else said up there, i also got into floyd by watchin the division bell tour, the concert in venice with everyone on boats and gondola's. one lasting memory for me was in comfortably numb, the line 'my hands felt just like 2 balloons' and a girl had her hands up in the air, swaying. cheesy yea, but as a 13 yr old hearing some magic for the first time i knew i had just found my fav new band

Got myself and the old fella tickets for the Australian Pink Floyd in Dublin, the closest I will ever get to see to the real thing. As for him the fecker has seen them many times back when he were a young scamp :} I think it says a lot when father and son can enjoy the same group stretching such a timescale..

A nice spliff, kids in bed, feet up, Dark Side Of The Moon on a decent stereo. Thats a good night in!!

I actually ended up working at a show in Basil, Switzerland, back when they were touring The Division Bell. They played Dark Side..from start to finish. It was a real treat, even though it involved a few days hard graft! Still, i would have done it for nothing once I heard I was gonna get to see a Floyd show. Good times:):):)

Iv seen the APFS loads of times over the last 8 or so years. Would recommend it to anyone, fans or not. It is an amazing show and as close to the real thing as you can possibly get.
Was great when they used to play the Olympia.

One thing as odd as it may sound is it makes me sad that there is hardly anything out now that can top the likes of Floyd. Such sheer talent and skill, they did so much with so little.

Dear lord to see the world in which we live where X fACTOR is what people consider a musical piece of greatness and make them number 1 for xmas etc. They havent got the talent to lace Pink Floyds boots.
