Like everyone else people in bands can be arseholes or sound. When a band becomes popular and get used to having everything they want that's when you see the real assholes begin to emerge.

Speaking as a former lead guitarist, I'd have to say drummer.

    Bassists for the win!

How do you know when there's a bass player at your door?

They never know when to come in.

I dunno, sometimes they can be up themselves from the start. As if "music is their life", so absorbed in their skills that they are the first to criticize anybody else. Especially the singer songwriter gits who stop parties...

Bassist coz they're the most insignificant part of the band and thus have the lowest self esteem making them more sound!

.....Ooohhh, controversial! I'm ready to be shot down!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

The majority of bands i was in, the drummer was the soundest guy. He's hidden in behind the drums and is normally not in it for the attention but really just loves knocking out the beats.

Bassists next, they need to mesh well with the drummer so will normally both be sound or both be assholes.

Singers ( which i was ) can be touch and go, it depends on how in love with their own lyrics and voice they are. Being the frontman can touch up the ego.

Generally speaking, the person on lead guitar might be a bit of a wanker but it will change from band to band.

I've been in bands where we were all assholes and been in bands where we were all sound.

Oh yeah - as soon as some gimp produces a guitar at a party it's officially over. Piss off to the cupboard under the stairs if you wanna play Damien Rice songs ya f*ckin' ponce!

So you varied from arsehole to sound depending on what music you were playing? :D

The rhythm section can often be very sound alright now that you mention it. I know of a couple of bands where I get on really well with the bassist and drummer, not so much with the others.

Well firstly, the singer is usually a self impotant pr'ick! Get's the most women I think. Usually really thin and feminine looking i find. least soundest

The lead guitarist can be up his own arse too but is more likely to be dead on than the singer. Sometimes they know they have great talent and they also know that they are expected to be dickheds. So, in order to obtain maximum benefit from their situation, they be nice to everyone and talk to them, even those way lower down on the social ladder than themselves. 2nd soundest

The bassist is generally sound but isnt as self confident as the other band members and often has no personality! He also tends to be extremely into music and knows quite a bit. Generally the most dead on in my opinion even if they are not the best craic. Soundest

The drummer, I find, is often a fat guy who grows a beard to distract you from this fact. He usually drinks loads and thinks he is providing a valuable contibution to the overall band sound, although his contribution is not that great! The drummer is usually good craic but can be a bit of a spacer and you coud be talking to him and he might come across as arrogant because you think hes not listening. 3rd soundest

Bassists were ok. In my original band every new bassist was christened The Dude, as their identity did not matter there on in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭el_tiddlero

why isn't there an option for less-talented second guitarist?

i really wanted to vote for myself........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Irishcrx

I'm a drummer myself so i'd be biast, but I do think drummers generally are alot more laid back and nicer i've played with alot of bands and this seems to be the case. Singers are usually the most arrogant and tempermental..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

In my experience, drummers tend to be nice guys.

I vote bassist, cuz I'm a bassist myself!

    Bassist then Drummer...

guitarists can be as bad as singers sometimes... it's even worse when the singer/frontman plays guitar too... that's a nightmare!

As a bassist, I generally get on better with drummers as we have to work together more.

I think usually drummers are a bit wacky anyways...
At least the ones I know are. :D

al the bands I've been in, drummer usually are the laid back ones.

Singers and lead guitars vye for power.

I was torn between bassist and drummer, the rhythm section is always nicest :)
the only person from a major band i can remember getting up close to was the bassist of Billy Talent and he was the loveliest out of all of them.

Most bands I know of that are using keys only do so in the studio, and use pre-recorded tracks live.

    Only qwerty ones.
They then use some sort of programme to make samples, stick them on a flash drive and there's your gig.

I'm a drummer and I'm sound. I'm also a guitarist though. So I suppose I'm somewhere between sound and wanker.

LISTEN The only personality trait you can tell from someone because of the instrument they play is their determination.

ie their determination not to be pushed down to bass or drums or bass from the guitar (most people choose the guitar first)

Of course, I'll never move down, I'm too stubborn.

Nah, depending on where i was in my life more than anything.

obviously guitarists and singers are **** by default, so it's the bassplayer or the drummer. Except it isnt the drummer.

What's the hardest part of playing the Guitar?

    Telling your parents you're gay..

I'd vote bassists followed closely by drummers.

When my singer tells a story about himself he speaks of himself in the third person. Monumental ego, but makes for an absolutely SAVAGE frontman!

Does getting your arse out on stage whilst doing a guitar solo between your legs count as being Sound?
