OK, while last week's spin was reasonably successful, a significant portion of team boards has yet to break any bones this winter. With that in mind, is anyone on for going out tomorrow and seeing if we can do better this time around? People who really need to pull up their socks include myself, Raam, rogerb and Verb, all of whom managed to not only fail to break any appendages last week but, due to a disgracefully high level of bike control, didn't even crash at all.

So, 9:30 beneath the bridge in Dundrum?

OK, TinyExplosions needs to get his act together. It's been at least a fortnight since his last crash and his wounds are healing.

Much better. Reckon I'm out tomorrow though, feeling like sh*t on a stick atm...

Smarta$$ el Tonto! I am having to keep that fecking cast for another 6 weeks until mid january!

I don't wish you all to fall, but just that your favourite bike kit shrinks in the wash ... Muahaha ( i never wish something so silly to happen to anyone )

Enjoy the spin and beware of icy patches ...

I think I might be in for this.

Having cleared this week, weeks in advance and - amazingly - finding myself in relatively normal health I should be there. I haven't crashed bigstyle this century so I guess I'm due a tumble from grace.

I'll try to make it along.

We usually decide on the morning depending on who's there and what people feel like.

The Castleknock contingent are all in plaster.

That doesn't bode well for me so, does it!

    I'll probably be there tomorrow.

Do we know whether the roads will be rideable?

Weatherman says it won't be as cold and the frosty conditions from last week should be absent. Well that's what he said the other day.

My pathetic little injuries are still "paining me" as they say round here. I haven't been out since last week.

I might come if it's not too frosty.

    enjoy. your. spin.

    :(

I think all signs are that it is going to be OK. It was warmer yesterday and substantially warmer again today. My interior temperature is above 10 C again which is always a good sign.

Also any1 heading across from Castleknock?

I expect to pass through Castleknock/Phoenix Park @09:00 approx.
    Black bike high vis jacket.

You regularly take your interior temperature ? 10 seems low, maybe you should get to a doctor.

I should be along for this, if the weather looks good at 9am.

Also, could I get the boards opinion on my brakes before we head off, I installed them myself and just need a bit of reassurance that they will be road worthy*.

*If you don't see me there then you might have to assume they were in fact, not road worthy :o.

    Hey, PM sent.

I might be out if some stiffness in my legs isn't gone by tomorrow morning (slight pull yesterday).

I'll take a gander at them if you want. I've installed a good few in my time. Why did you change them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Because I'm weak and I wanted ultegra brakes to match my groupset :(

Also, the 4ZA ones weren't that great to be honest, it seemed like a good time to upgrade. I followed the shimano guide but my lack of a torque wrench means I had to "guess" the torque, which more than likely means under-tightened.

    Thanks Tonto!

I'm out I have an assignment due .... will probably go up Howth hill in the morning though to get the brain working!

I am going to the rugby at 1.30 so won't be along.
I heard a forecast on 5 -7 Live at 5.30 saying the temperatures are going to be between zero and minus five over night so be careful / cautious / decide in the morning.

Are you talking about the torque used to attach them to the frame? As that doesn't generally affect their function at all, they can be quite loose and will still function fine. The cable tension and pad alignment are the issues affecting functionality. Note my experience in this is lesser than Tonto's!

Yep, as long as their bolted on reasonably tight, you should be fine.

Pretty frosty outside Casa Lumen this morning, and the digital thermometer reads zero.

    Thoughts?

It is indeed pretty frosty. We should probably avoid the mountains and take the coast road to be safe.

I'll got out to Dundrum anyway. No frost in town.

Just back from a run - lads be extremely careful out , the roads were wet yesterday from showers and are complete skating rinks this morning here in Annamoe, not safe on four wheels nevermind two.

On 'mature reflection' maybe we're being a bit foolhardy given what happened last week. Tis -1 here, so if there is frost, it won't clear up very quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Crap, just tucking into cereal now, I'm out near the foot of the wickla' mountains and it looks pretty frosty but its not that cold.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,544 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

I could barely walk/jog on the roads here, that said its not forecast to be particularily cold today so should hopefully clear up in an hour or so except for higher up of course.

Is it too late to suggest postponing until a bit later?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 385 ✭✭emty

Just back from a nice walk around kilmainham(after getting locked out of my apt!!),side roads are quite slippey and would not make me feel too confident about going out on two wheels at the moment. However it is not that cold so might go out later, say april or may!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

I think I am going to hold off for a few hours, it is just not worth it. My hip is still sore from last week, I can't sleep on it (doesn't affect cycling thankfully.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

Just stepped out the door there and almost went careering down my front steps. Brief experimentation showed road and pavement to be very slippy indeed.

I won't be along I'm afraid, I value my body parts and like the way they connect together at present.

I'd suggest in weather conditions like this we consider late morning/afternoon cycles TBH.

Rathfarnham was like an Ice rink at 7 this morning, Postponement/ Abandonment sounds like a wise decision.....or else I just getting too old!
