Both (members here) are TKD coaches, sorry I assumed you might have known that.

And if you feel it might be related to your TKD technique it might be an idea to post the same question in the Martial Arts & Self Defence forum where Jon is also a moderator.

Apologises once again for assuming you knew the lads.

If you've had it for a year, I'd say you're well overdue a visit to a good physio...it doesn't sound nice, but hopefully might be something simple to work / massage out. You'll probably need to take a break from kicking for a while. I'd various hamstring and hip injuries last year and ended up not kicking for a good 6 weeks I'd say. You could still go to classes I'm sure and start using those hands more until the leg clears up...

    I'm not a TKD coach since about 2004 :)

Your hip flexors take a lot of strain in tkd. First of all though, a knot? Who told you you got a knot in the muscle? They're really very, very rare. In know that strains and swelling can sometimes be incorrectly assumed to be knots.

I do TKD aswell, suffer from all kinds of muscles and lower back problems, get yourself to a decent physio, tell them the problem, let them work away (hurts like F but it's worth it after), give em the €50 and away you go :D

If this is a chronic problem, which after leaving it for a year it probably is, it could take a few sessions and might never fully heal.

Take my lower back for instance, yanked my SL join in March, didn't get it seen to till June, went to a ****ty chiropractor for 3 months until i got my ass to a physio. Now the problem is flarring up again after 2 months of me assuming it was gone.

I had it treated as a groin strain straight after it happened.

I do go the physico every few weeks and he works it out pretty well and usually after his sessions i feel great.

However if I take a complete rest off (as i have done before) when I goto stretch or kick the ``knot'' is right there again and is majorly painful..

I suppuse its something ill have to live with

Don't take that attitude or you'll definitely have to live with it.

Again, who diagnosed it as a knot?

Lads get yourself foam rolling, its unreal the difference it makes. Even if you do it once a week it makes a major difference, i have been doing recently as i come back from a bad injury. The trigger points are also a great way to get them little areas that otherwise you cant get at
