Did anyone happen to catch Gerry Ryan this morning.
Is the vilest man in the public figure?

11 am and he's bleating on about masturbation and vaginas and
how fast and slow he does it and how to get a woman off?

I'm far from prudish, but c'mom, Ryan is just VILE!

He actually gets excited anytime smut and sex is spoken of. He's weird

He's just gotten divorced and gotten a new girlfriend. It's been so long, he'd forgotten what one looks like. Cut the man a bit of slack.

No he is not, he just talks about it on live air, nothing wrong with what he speaks about. He was talking about the smell of a mans privates before and is that the reason why women don't give head as frequently as men would like... he was talking about vibrators another time and comparing them to willies...

Jesus, hes not that bad... Definately not vile.

I applaud Ryan's smuttiness in the face of a stale morning schedule across most of the broadcasters.

    Turn the radio dial.

He's been doing it for 20 years. Why stop now?

You do have the opportunity to change the station.

Wait. You're the guy who was giving out about Bono preaching.

Once again you fail to see the option of changing the station.

I know a few people who hate gerry ryan. I'm indifferent as i've never met him. Me mam has before, she won something on his show, and went to pick up the prize with me dad. My friend hates him for some reason. He can talk about pussy and cock anytime he wants. doesnt annoy me in the least. better than talking bout the ****ing economy 24/7

He shouldn't be allowed talk about sex. Simple as.

Jeez, I didn't think I'd get so many DIFFERENT views. I'm with Terry on this; he has been doing it for 20 years now. He's never going to change. He is VILE.

I just think certain standards should be applied. It is after all the national broadcaster and young children are unfortunately able to listen to the creep.

Pub talk late at night, no real issue there. 11am on the national airwaves? C'mon, he's VILE and the fact he gets excited and giddy tells me he is a little touched.

Does RTE have any standards whatsoever?

Crap. I forgot to buy my radio licence.
    Thanks for reminding.

Here's the thing; At least we're not completely pussified like the British and Americans where you have the national broadcasters apologising every time someone mentions anything mildly sexual.

For many years now I have listened to radio presenters regularly use expletives and openly talk about sex.
This is what happens in the free world and if you don't like it, then maybe you should consider moving to the so-called free world, where your senses will not be hurt by the mention of the words "Vagina" or "Penis".

You can still watch people getting their heads blown to bits on a daily basis though.

This country spent far too long under the thumb of the highly conservative Catholic church.
We can now have radio presenters openly talk about sex without there being riots outside Montrose and old biddies with their "down with that sort of thing" posters.

Enjoy the enlightened Ireland we have and don't try to bring us back to the dark days when religion ruled the airwaves.

No he's not vile, just a big, fat, overpaid, overfed moron with ideas above his station which is in reality somewhere just below the lowest common denominator.

D'you ever hear him going on about the photos in the papers like a fukin steam train trying to go up a mountain.

    "Huff . . . oh the page. . .gasp. . .three girl to . . . day . . . puff . . . well lads . . . slobber . . . if I wasn't . . . with my lovely . . . sigh . . . wife"

You can just imagine him sitting there his trousers down and his big, fat, meaty thighs bonding with his chair from the sweat and his jowls and treble chin piling on his chest as he desperately peers with his small piggy eyes around his heap of belly trying to locate his small and flacid mickey which last saw action around the time he got his tenure with RTE.

    Fuker turns my stomach.

Heck of a lot of weird/"touched" people out there so. :)

I disagree with people telling the OP to just change the radio dial though. The OP is concerned that this is on air on the first place, whether he listens to it or not isn't really relevant.

Gerry Ryan comes across as creepy and sleazy no doubt, but I don't think he should be stopped from talking about sexual stuff. The show's target audience wants to hear about it anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Once I was in a car showroom sat down waiting for technician, the radio was blaring away and Ryan was going on about cunnilingus and how its never shown correctly in porn movies (too much tongue outside the inner labia, so punters could see the action).

Yes, there is a market for all sorts. That's part of the reason he does it, there are plenty
out there who get a kick out of heraing about his intimate sex life

And it's NOT simply a case of turn the dial, you are right. Certain standards should apply.

I have no issue with topics concerning sex, it's his take and style on the issue. He cannot
keep anything real and constantly inputs the vile element to it.

That's a good point. I like the way things can be a bit less sanitised here. Football punditry is great too - you've got Dunphy and Giles being as obnoxious as they want about footballers, managers etc... and this is apparently a breath of fresh air for guys who come over to RTE like Souness and Houghton as it's such a contrast to the Sky Sports/BBC way of being so nice and bland about everyone.

I do have standards. Quite high standards when it comes to raising children.

Do I want them exposed to that sort of thing? No, I don't.
The solution yet again is to change the station or send them into another room to watch Barney (whose head is penis shaped by the way).

I don't think you would last too long in some European countries. Some of them have 24 hour hardcore porn on the tv.

What's that? You wouldn't put that channel on if there were kids in the room?

    Man, I am worried now!

    Two smug and arrogant twats!

Changing the station not always works. Ryan is on and you go out for a bit

Well his sex life in the context of sex in general... I don't know if people would be interested in his sex life specifically.
I think the 11am in the morning thing is quite prudish of you though. Kids generally aren't listening to the radio at that hour as they're in school, and ok, there's the summer holidays, but why would they be interested in listening to a middle-aged housewives' favourite? And sexual stuff would more than likely go over their heads. It would be up to their parent(s) to monitor what they listen to anyway.

Nothing wrong with the content, its just the guy delivering it.

He just seems like a complete sleeze perv pedo rapist necro fritzel type

Now if a young attractive woman was broadcasting that stuff then it would be a different story

(Yes Dudess and Thaed I do find young good looking women more attractive and sexy than a middle aged overweight dude :P)

To be fairer to Ryan than I like to be, 11 am is about as safe a time to chat about explicit stuff as the kids are in school, of course if he is the same during the hols then thats another matter.

There prolly is something of the post-catholic state backlash going on, in Spain they went mad alogther. Franco and the Church had everyone on thier knees then - bang. Twas Sodom and Gomorrah.

This is where censorship comes from.

It starts out with one person being a bit prudish and then all of a sudden you have a flock of sheep following that person and the only reason they are following along is because they have little else to be doing and just want a bit of company.

The option to change the station is completely relevant.
For many years we had little choice and now we have literally hundreds of stations to choose from.
With internet access that rises to thousands of stations.

I'm no fan of Ryan, but I believe he has the right to talk about anything he wants on his show.

If it offends you, then tough ****. Get some backbone.

For the record, I am far from prudish and I am anti censorship COMPLETELY for ADULTS!

But Ryan is discussing stuff of an adult nature and explicit adult nature in the morning, school or no school, holidays or no holidays. That's not bothering HIM.

With adults, IMO anything goes as long as it doesn't interfere with others or break laws.

Example, I strongly disagree with censorship of any films for ADULTS or any reading
    material.

And also, Ryan doesn't discuss these issues in a sensible and mature fashion. He's is seedy
and pervy and downright weird. That, we all surely can agree on!

Usually the guys who are always talking about it don't get it. I know he has five kids but look at him now. Definitely a job for lights off and heavy sedation.
