No. Besides there's different types of dyslexia, some people are bad at spelling, some are bad at maths, etc. I think the journalist A.A. Gill who writes for the Sunday Times is dyslexic, AFAIK. It's nothing to do with being smart or not smart.

Dyslexia is usually just a mix up of signals so that your brain mixes up 2 letters like d+b or m+n. It can also lead people spell words like they appear e.g dare instead of their etc

    Its definitely real

Some people learn ways to develop around it but it never leaves.

Its real but overdiagnosed, like ADHD or other things. David Leary was on the daily show last week or the week before, talking about how parents are getting their kids diagnosed with mild behavioural problems to help them through school or something. (Damn Yanks!) It can also be down to bad teaching, which is then called dyslexia but in actual fact the child just fell behind and wasn't helped back up.

and your point is? Yes, it exists, yes, people can develop alternative ways around it, they still have it though! Just because you can manage to live with a condition (diabetes for example) doesn't mean you don't have it:rolleyes:

Dyslexia is just thrown at people. It does exist, but is extremely exaggerated.

ADHD, I believe is way too overrated, and if families would put a bit of control on their children, they would have it totally minimized or they'd have it suppressed.

There's a kid in my school that has 'ADHD' who puts schoolbags down the toilets, etc. and it's clear he just needs a good beating, but the principal and teachers all feel sorry for the little shít so he gets away with everything, and is the hardman of his year. I'd love to kick his head in.

Yeah it's definitely overdiagnosed like ADHD. Mrs. Javaboy is a teacher and it seems like half the kids have some kind of get out of jail free card.

I'm not denying that dyslexia or ADHD exist, but some parents and doctors are too quick to reach for an acronym to explain their kid's behaviour when sometimes it is as simple as the child being bold or a little stupid. I know a dyslexic guy and this irritates the hell out of him.

P.S. The deliberate spelling mistakes stopped being funny ages ago.

Inability to tell when he's being witty and when he's being obnoxiously smug? ^^

I know a couple of people, one in particular who struggled mightily with dyslexia. Not someone who was stupid, but who had to deal with a lot of extra headaches because of it.

I do reckon that dyslexia's probably overreported, but then, I've known some people with relatively severe dyslexia, and it's not that funny.

Wow, you're showing a spectacular level of ignorance there.

I have a friend who is dyslexic and he is far from 'not smart', he managed to get a degree in computer applications without using any support services.

I remember kids in school who had genuine learning difficulties (and obviously very frustrated because of it) - that is exactly how the teacher dealt with it*.
Everyone was equal in those days, some kids were assholes, some kids had learning difficulties, they all got the same beatings encouragement. Good times:rolleyes:

    *Didn't help much tbh.

Worse is that school psychologists are under pressure to diagnose something: can you imagine reporting:
"There is nothing wrong with David. He is just ignorant and lazy."
"There is nothing wrong with Michael. He is just ignorant and lazy."
"There is nothing wrong with Jessica. She is just ignorant and lazy."
Next time, the school will get someone who will give them fancy words.

Im of the opinion that dyslexia is simply a construct of the PC brigade used so that dumb people can feel good about themselves..

You couldn't be going around admitting that some people are just stupid.

5 stars for using the term "spectacular level of ignorance" there, it works on so many levels :)

Spectacular like in - WTF, I will just go and tell people who suffer from a disorder/mental condition that they are stupid.

    What do you think?

Do you realy think that it ok to tell people that they are stupid?

I suffer from dyslexia, in that I can not see when words are spelt incorrectly - so do you think it is ok to call me stupid because I can't spell?

You're nearly right. Dyslexia (along with ADHD) is real but has been hijacked to a certain extent by dogooders as a way of rebranding some stupid and bold people. It's unfortunate for those who actually are dyslexic because they end up on the receiving end of the cynicism that's developed.

Um, ya there are plenty of lazy ignorant kids out there... I suppose you also believe that scumbags are just "misunderstood"?

I don't know if you're being serious here or just subtly taking the piss out of the dogooder types who have succesfully rebranded stupid.

Of course there are lazy and ignorant kids. Just like there are lazy and ignorant adults. It's not always about a Michelle Pfeiffer or Sydney Poitier coming in and reaching out to them with superdy duper teaching methods. Some kids are just plain lazy.
