is there a volume cap on the ipod classic?

    going to be getting the 120gig for christmas, is there a volume cap on the new classic? i remember i was able to change the firmware of my old vision:M to American, is this possible to do with the ipod?

    Yes there is a volume cap, and it's quite bad. There's no way to remove it either.... if you can, test out one of the new classics before you buy.

    is it not as bad on other makes like creative or sony? this would be a deal breaker for me, i hated my zen because it wasnt loud enough until i found out the firmware solution.

    It's worse (lower output) than the current Sony range, not sure how it compares to Creative's EU volume cap, I wouldn't use an EU FW on those...not that I currently own any Creative players anymore..

    Seriously, try it out if you can....

    Here's my example: with my Jays Qjays (iem's) I would have the volume between 60%-75% (and that was for comfortable listening...I'm quite ear safety conscious)...of course I sold my classic off fairly quickly, I wasn't overly wowed by the SQ.
