    Solar powered submarine planned

Plans have been unveiled for a solar powered submarine. Swiss company BKW FMB Energy says that a 200m² floating solar generator would provide the submarine with enough charge to allow it to travel at 5 knots underwater and dive to a depth of 300m.

The submarine, which would be able to carry up to 24 passengers, would return to the floating array after each dive to recharge its batteries. If successful, the boat is likely to be put into operation on Lake Thun.

BKW says the technology could benefit boat owners too, because the floating arrays could be adapted to provide the basis of a solar recharging network for boats and barges. Installations at popular harbours and canal junctions would encourage the use of solar and hybrid powered craft.

I think the invention was actually a "self draining submarine" and it was definately solar powered torch.
Nobody would have thought that one would be around:D
