The downsides of working out...

I was just wondering what, if any, problems in life that arise due to training?

One of my pet hates is finding jeans to fit me properley because I have big thighs I have to get jeans with a bigger waist than I need. :(
Or wearing jeans that are my correct waist size and having to squeeze in and get wear on the insde thigh.

And this whole 'skinny jeans' thing has really messed things up :o

    Anyone else?

    1) Withdrawal symptoms: Feeling unwell from not getting exercise. Who says you cannot get addicted to working out?

    2) Getting run down: Lack of fodder after a hard workout leading to a cold.

    3) Uber DOMS: The type that takes 3 days to revert to manageable pain levels (follows on from point 2)

Is this going to be one of those threads where people complain about how damn fit and strong they are? Like the "getting jeans to go over my huge muscular thighs" threads that are on pretty much every lifting forum on the interweb?

Well I love those, so I hate being so damn attractive. leave me alone ladies!

Haha I only brought it up because I was buying jeans yesterday.
    I'm not that buff!

I know what you mean. When I was just regular good-looking, it was bad enough with all the threesomes. Now with the biceps and six-pack, they want foursomes?! Where is a man supposed to get the energy?

Getting sick. Maybe its just me but after a particularly hefty week of workouts I always manage to get some sort of cold/infection and the following week suffers.

Anyone have any tips to combat this?

Saying that though, the benefits far outweight any drawbacks.

going inot jack and jones asking got xl and getting laughed at...

getting angry when i dont get to train....this has nearly cost me my job on several occasions!

having every little punk who sees you in the gym come up to you on a saturday night and ask training advise..

    upsides...

every bouncer works out in my gym..getting places is never a problem..

reducing my carbon foot print by eating lots of meat hence removing those peskey cows from the carbon footprint..

ive made lots of excellent friends from training...

Having to borrow your sisters T-Shirts to get one tight enough to display how hawwwwt my body is and how I obviously go to the gym.

Finding workout T-shirts with suitable macho, intimidatory slogans like
    "'86 Bulldog Lifters Crushteam Crew"
    or my fave
"Hammer Slam till your díck bleeds"

Trying to find a nice pair of lifting gloves that make me look sufficiently jakked.

Remembering to keep my arms at a 45 degree angle to my body lest they interfere with my invisible lats.

Trying not to pass out while wearing a massive hoody (with one of said slogans emblazened across the back of it) and a wooly skullcap in a temperature controlled gym that stays at 21 degrees all year round.

Finding a supplement tub with a bold enough font and at least three symbols from the periodic table of elements to really stand out when I whip it out in the locker room.

I'm only kidding of course.... I don't have a sister.

    Permanently bruised shins from deadlifting.

Walking like a cowboy for 2 days after my leg day. I don't understand why my legs get much worse DOMS than my upper body.

It's a common thing, it happens to lots of folk, myself included. I've yet to find a plausible reason for it though.

I've learned to live with it, its just a bit of a drag when I spend 80% of my workday on my feet. I get some funny looks stretching in work let me tell you.

[sleaze]With hands like that, its not handshakes most guys would be worried about [/sleaze]

The only thing I don't like about training is the guilt I feel when I don't train*

LOL, if we're thinking the same thing (and hell I am sleazy, so we probably are) then calloused hands may well have the same effect as legs DOMS, and leave guys walking like John Wayne for a few days :P

Usually using a foam roller on your glutes, hams and quads before bed reduces DOM's alot, well it does for me :)

The only real downside i have with training is being completely tired out after a leg day. Its really hard for me to get up the next day after so i usually take that day off :pac:

Only downside i've come across is being really really angry all the time! My friends are getting abit sick of me asking "Can i hit one of you?" :D

The downside for me is my now massive calves, they're too big and look completely out of proportion.

I suppose it has to be the colds. I get them a lot less lately though as I do be taking my vits and supps more regularly. Garlic and echinacea etc, definitely help my immune system.

Also having to carry a big stick with me on nights out cos women keep touching my sirloin steak walnut cracking ass cheeks whilst I try to mind my own business and have a few quiet pints with the lads...it's tough *sigh*

Yeah I hear ya, such a bleedin nuisance that.

I have to second what Boss said actually - if I go more than 5 or 6 days without working out I start feeling pretty lethargic and crap....

5 or 6? Jeez, I feel like that if I leave it for two days.

It bugs me when someone says, 'oh youre so lucky you dont have to worry about your figure'. Worry? Im fupping killing myself trying to maintain my figure! :D

The only other downside is if I get an injury or get sick, and it holds me back. *touches wood*

endless laundry and green hair.... two people training 2-3 times a day in the one house generates insane amounts of smelly kit/towels/sweats, not to mention what chlorinated pools do to expensive highlights!.... Other than that it's all good

    endless laundry

    Oh yeah. Same here.
Its a nightmare and bad for water usage :(

The flipping smell in some of the gyms though. People wash your clothes!
