Up and Coming players.

There's a thread over on the Hendon Mob about up and coming UK players. I've never been overly impressed by UK players and felt quite comfortable any time I've played over there. I personally think that Irish players have the edge. But think it would be interesting to start a debate about players who we think might make an impact on the world / European stage.

My pick for a player who I think we'll hear more about in the future is Martin Silke from Co Mayo. - Most of you will have played against Silky at some point. He turns up at games all over the country and indeed all over the world. His failure as a player is probably bad bankroll management - That and the fact that he likes to qualify for tournaments. I think however it's only a matter of time before he gets a big cash.

From the hours I've spent wandering (seemingly aimlessly) around the poker tables at some of the events throughout the year, one of the players who's constantly stood out for me is Adam Fallon. He also conducts himself very well at the table. I've seen him get knocked out of tournaments at crucial stages and usually it's all in a hand that would see him emerge with a big tank. He's very close to a deserving big score!

Also, in Killarney, Nick Heather impressed a lot. He plays mostly online and satted into the event. He was kind of bitch slapped around the final few tables as his inexperience became noticeable but if he can just transfer half his skills over to the live game, he'll do very well for himself.

not counting the guys doing it full time for the last few years or other well known players...
Semi bluff, Yer man McSweeney, Fallon, OZ, Doke, smoothcall, pete1234, P. Storan, Robs missus Cat and RooneyD (LL maybe, for deepstacks) there are quite a few others who have mastered the tourny art but I 'd love to play them in cash so have omitted them.

    oh yeah FINTAN GAVIN.

    .

I presume you mean the Masters in May? Paul was a bit spewy then but bear in mind he'd only been playing about 6 months at that point as far as I know. He was much better when I played him again in July (in Citywest, which he won) and by the time I played with him in IWF side event, he had improved beyond all recognition. Definite future superstar, considering how good he is right now on so little experience. I'd already rank him near enough to the top 10 tournament players I've played against in the country right now.

Good call from Nicky on Keith too: first time I played him I thought "standard luckbox" but there's a lot more to his game than meets the eye and he's very hard to play against. Like Paul, he has that utter fearlessness all really good tourney players have.

Adam Fallon is always impressive. Chris Cooke will get a really big score as soon as he starts running half decent. Pete Murphy is the goods. Some others that spring to mind: Cat O'Neill, Oz, a young guy I played in Bruce, (Jay I think his name is), Troy Prendergast, Mick Stevens, Sean Prenderville, Gary Clarke, Willie Clynes, Rory Brown.

I would agree with both of these. I played with both for several hours in Killarney and them two along with Jimmy Mc Sweeny were the toughest players I played with over all 3 days. All those guys are in the their early 20s I think so should be some hope out of them.

Yes i would agree on both picks, I only played with Nick for 2 hours or so in Killarney and was impressed with his play and Adam seems to cash every 2/3rd tourney he plays in so very consistent

Out of all the live tournaments and pro players I played with over the years i was never as impressed by anyone more than Adam Fallon well played. Also dont no if its Marc from boards but Dublin player foxy beard if I remember correctly was very good bit too aggressive maybe well played anyway.

I think this type of thread is a bit silly, for one thing most good play, if done really well is almost impossible to spot*; this is even assuming the viewer is capable of distinguishing it. And assuming they are of a decent standard and solid enough, it is going to take thousands of hands to find out their leaks. Solid players leaks are much harder to spot than

(Any player who routinely shows big folds or bluffs cant really be that good, because their decision making is going to be exploitable)

Mostly its going to be a case of who variance has rewarded recently

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 658 ✭✭✭Hawk Eye

Agreed, nearly all the names mentioned in this thread save the levels are only perceived as good cause they luckboxed their way to a few donkament scores. The standard in nearly all Irish tournaments is god awful so if you play enough a half decent player is going to show some sort of consistency along the line.
