    ive downloaded and installed cygwin but nowhere along the way waas there the option to add packages.

    ive looked for ages but cant find out how to add packages; i need the gcc one for c++.

    how do i get it?

    Run the setup.exe program. (Even if the program is already set up)
    Click Next, Install from internet, Next, Next, Next, Next
    Add a convenient Mirror http://ftp.esat.net is reliable. Next.

    The list of packages should be downloaded and displayed on the next page.

    If you can't see the packages you want click the View button a few times to set the view mode to "Uninstalled" or "Full".

    Click on the packages' entry in the "New" column to change from "Skip" to the version number. (3.4.4-3 at the moment)

    Click Next to start installing it and other updates.
