Erneside is pretty much it, tesco , and m+S as well as a smattering of the usual high street shops, never been up the main streeet, bit of advice get there before 7.30am (if your doing your christmas grocery shop) as asda is 24rs and get mannic, manic busy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

up main st you have heatons and woolworth
along with the usual sprinkling of boutiques/clothes shops
and giftshops(pubs and restaraunts too)out past
erneside turn off is dunnes stores, lidl is there too.
would agree that earlier the better when you go,iv'e gone the past two weekends and its been crazy from 1o'clock on.

Thanks for the replies - thought I'd be waiting a while, going on the activity in this forum!
Is Enniskillen big? The last time I was there was about 15 years ago, and can't really remember a lot, except battered sausages!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

its probably no bigger than 15 years ago
but it is way busier now and traffic can
be brutal depending on the time of day.
also be wary of the 24 hour shopping gig
as it does'nt apply to sunday trading.

fairly strict sunday trading in the north
so shops don't open til twelve or one.
last year i thought i would get the jump on
everyone and went up the last sunday before
christmas, arrived at six in the morning and
ended up kipping in the car till the shops opened:o

Thinking of going up at the weekend myself. Any big toy shops up there??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

the one big toy shop that comes to mind
is located across the road from the footbridge exit
    from the ernside(past argos).

I'll be going up on a friday night and staying over, so hopefully I shouldn't run into too many difficulties!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

hey captain -not sure of the legalities as regards
firearms but there's a shop up the one end of main street
called "home field and stream" its one of the best
outdoor shops in the country and apart from a
great place to browse, the staff are really well
    informed and very friendly.

Are there any decent hotels in or around the centre of town?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

can't say that there are any hotels in the town center
that come to mind, only ever stayed over once- at a place called the 'killyhevlin hotel' about a mile and a half out the dublin road.
its four star, very nice and as i remember not too pricey.

Killyhevlin is out the Belfast road isn't it? Although you can drive to Dublin that way, most people would consider the road down to derrylin, belturbert, cavan the Dublin road... It is a nice hotel, lovely setting...

Anyone considering a trip should try do it mid-week, as the weekends are mad!

Yea hit the Erne-side.... you can leave the car there then walk up the town also. There's a massive dunes not too far away, with a Currys in behind it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

not disputing the prefered route to dublin;)

the actual address for the hotel is

    killyhevlin hotel
    dublin road,enniskillen,
    co fermanagh.

can make a difference when using a route planner.

go up there my self ocasionally, heading up this week as well, was going to check out the market as well, its usally near currys, but cant remember which day, any ideas any one

Can anyone offer any websites that list all shops in enniskillen? I have searched to no avail. Also, is there a sainsburys/iceland in enniskillen? Or are there any good shops for buying PCs/components?

    Thanks for any info!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

don't know of any website that offers what you are
looking for,and tbh there have been so many changes
made recently what with shops moving and new branches
opening i doubt if it would be up to date anyhow.

there is no sainsburys(yet), but the iceland is located
beside the lower level entrance to heatons.this is across
the road from the pedestrian walkway to the rear of the
    'erneside',just past the big toyshop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 724 ✭✭✭muckety

What is the big toyshop? Do you know if they have a website, would like to do some price comparisons! Thanks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31 ddea

Would recommend anyone going grocery shopping in Enniskillen between now and Christmas to go to Tesco rather than ASDA. ASDA is jam packed even early in the morning (8am), not worth it. Tesco is much more civilised, especially at off-peak times. Very little difference in price(if any) as far as I can see.

Regarding toy shops I think the one referred to(near Heatons rear entrance) is called Toytown, not sure if they have a website. There's also quite a big toy shop called Hannah's Toyworld on the road linking the roundabout into Erneside multistory carpark with Tescos Entrance. Again not sure of website. Argos in the Erneside is another obvious choice for toys. The argos.co.uk website is probably a good place to get an idea of toy prices up there as the neighbouring toy shops obviously have to be quite competitive with them.

Where's the best place for parking? Are there any clampers up there?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

there is a massive amount of parking all over the town
some of it free and some pay as you go-there is free
parking at asda, tesco, erneside main, dunnes and lidl,
the rear of erneside is pay, as are the on street parking
and municipal carparks like the big one by the library.
btw the rates are very good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

Got parking in Tesco's - there was still loads of space when I was leaving, at around 1pm.

Asda was a waste of time - tesco have the exact same and a few better deals with drink, can't understand how it was so quiet compared to asda:confused: You'd probably be better armed with a baseball bat if negotiating asda - especially the alcohol section:mad:

Stayed last night in Killyhevlin, very nice accomodation and reasonably priced for what it was - £130 for a double room and £95 for a single. Only about a mile drive and I was in tesco car park!

Could anyone recommend any electrical shops in Enniskillen?
Will be heading up next week to do a bit of Xmas present shopping and am looking to get an LCD tv.Is there anywhere in Enniskillen that would be a good place to buy one of these? Or where would you recommend up North for buying these? Tv prices down South are ridiculous in comparison to the sterling prices

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

Try laptopsdirect.ie - they have some really good tv's at excellant prices.

Tesco's had some on display, prices were very reasonable.

ASDA for cheap alcohol and great deals on groceries, its off to the left of the little roundabout at erneside. don't think it's open on a sunday but! good for decorations too :)

hi i was thinking of heading up to enniskillen tomorrow morning been to newry a few times and i just cant handle the craziness any longer!! can anyone give me an idea as to how busy it gets up there. thinking of leaving at about 8am hope to be in the shops by 10am!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

I don't think you have anything to worry about until christmas! I was up there last week and it was pretty tame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭dardevle

    .

the earlier you get there the better...got into asda carpark last saturday at 11.30 and it was a zoo, cruised around the lot for 5-10 mins just looking for a spot.....the erneside was fair busy in the afternoon 1-3 but up town was not bad at all.
i normally like to get there by 8.30 or 9.00 and at that time of the day its fine.

Was planning to drive up this Friday? With all of the flooding, is it worth going??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

You'll probably have more trouble with the flooding in Galway than anywhere else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,651 ✭✭✭Captain Slow IRL

According to another poster, there appears to be flooding in Blacklion, where you cross the border - http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055749023

Was up there today, depending on what you're after there's good value to be had. It's beginning to get pretty busy now.

Well.. Suppose the usuals - Drink, Sweets.

Parents are talking about going up soon. Just wanted to see if it was still cool.

Sounds good. Not that anything would stop them having a day out anyway! :pac:

If you go to the mysupermarket website and type in whatever you're looking for you can get a list of current prices across Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury. The prices include special offers and the dates the offers are up so if you have a rough idea of what you're looking for it'll let you know whether it's worth the trip or not!

Bit off topic but do we have a "mysupermarket website" in the Republic - it would save me a fortune on petrol going from shop to shop:D

I don't think there is an equivalent in ROI as yet - maybe it's an idea waiting to happen :P

Also, re. the UK website - if you don't want to register just click 'browse around' (underneath the register today button) and it takes you into the site without having to create an account. The registration thing is only something they brought in recently.

Once you find your item in the list that comes up from searching if you click on its picture it shows you the price in all the shops rather than having to click through the tabs for each shop at the top.
