Christmas drinks (poll)

Ok, thought I would resurrect Verb's christmas drinks thread, but now with extra poll!

Since we can do a "Saturday spin meetup" nearly any saturday without too much notice, I thought I would leave that out of this. So for anyone who only wants to do some kind of drinks/hot chocolate/mince pie thing on a saturday, don't worry I haven't forgotten about you here!

I think Barrabus mentioned he would only be able to do something before the 19th, and I'm guessing most people with jobs can't be out drinking during the week (or can you?). Lastly, I think the week leading up to christmas will be fairly busy in terms of people organising presents, dinners, office drinks and so the sooner the better.

So, I present the poll of limited choice. This is the first time I have included a poll, so bear with me if there are a few gremlins present.

What day would suit you best for a boards cycling christmas meet-up? 20 votes

    Friday 5th December
    0% 0 votes
    Saturday 6th December
    0% 0 votes
    Friday 12th December
    20% 4 votes
    Saturday 13th December
    10% 2 votes
Actually, I would prefer another date midweek
    65% 13 votes
None of these dates suit me, this was a terrible thread, shame on you!

    You should allow multiple choices.

There will be a cyclists christmas party organised for the POD, probably about a week before Christmas. I'll try to find details.

But of course, organise away if you want.

Is it just a coincidence that a party for cyclists would be held in the Palace of Drugs? Isn't the sport tainted enough :)

Looks like the 13th is winning, i voted the 6th but I am available for either.

Was hoping for more than 13 votes to let people make a decision, come on chaps!

DCC Christmas party - Thursday 18th December 2008.

Sounds good, but I think a boards meetup can work along side this.

I should have added destinations in that poll, is everyone happy with the Church or are there any major objections?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

I voted "none of these days suited me", but what I actually meant was the 13th doesn't suit. Enjoy the night out.

In other words, is anyone barred from the Church?

Why, are you barred from the church? Would this be anything to do with assless chaps?

Corner of Jervis, Henry, Mary St

Ok, so would everyone be happy with the following?:

    w350.png

For those who don't know where it is (I sure don't, never been there!), the Church is located here:

"Walk away from the Spire on O'Connell Street, down Henry Street and Mary Street. On junction of Mary St and Jervis St."

I called it a "meet-up" as opposed to "people have drinks then hop on a bike" which may or may not happen, I just thought it best to avoid.

Is this definitely on for the 13th?

I need to book a babysitter.

Don't think I'll be able to make it - the work Christmas do is on that night.

I doubt I'll risk it. Baby due on 12th.

If it's overdue, surely you can get her to drive you and and wait in the car? Taxis are hard to come by around Christmas.

    Women can be so selfish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,920 ✭✭✭Vélo

Good thinking!! I'll bring her out for an Indian on 11th. or 12th. That should get things moving!

I could also get her to drop everyone home. I'm sure she'd love that, a load of pissed internet weirdos talking bikes, euro rules, leg shaving etc etc to her.

Not sure if I could make it, but on the offchance, what time is the meetup.
Are we supposed to wait in the Church all day.
Also, how will we know eachother (for those of us that have met only a small few of you's).
DO we all wear something to identify ourselves.

This is could be so clandestine.

If I tell my wife that I am heading out for a few jars with a load of heads from the interweb, she will probably jump to conclusions and I will get a divorce for xmas.

Let's say from 7pm on? I'll be there on time, and will put a boards.ie cycling cap on the table.... I'll also have a red rose in my right buttonhole and be reading a copy of the international herald tribune from June 23rd, 1998. The code phrase is "Cycling in the mountains can be hard in the snow" to which the appropriate response is "verily, does the swallow not fly south for the winter?"

The old ways are always the best

    I'd suggest either:

    Espresso + ridiculously stylish sunglasses
    or
    Chainring tattoo across forehead

    ..depending on personal style.

Be on the lookout for people arriving by bike, might be a giveaway.

I intend on having my santa hat, if I can find one of those LED ones then it is both festive and practical for going home.

I'll be saying "ciao" a lot.

Any night will suit, except I'm in Bantry so it'll be a bit far to crawl home! Just have to spend the night in with the goldfish and half a can of lager.

I'll be there with bells on.

note: I will not actually be wearing bells

In that case, I will get you the drink I believe I promised from the jersey organising at the very end of the night....hehe.

Should we say then that the christmas spin is pencilled in for the following sat? Perhaps just a short jaunt by fixed gear out to enniskerry or something? Come on the pista!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,318 ✭✭✭✭Raam

Maybe everyone should bring some kind of cycling related paraphernalia. That could make for some fun after a few sharpeners.
