    Hi all,

Sorry if this is a little long.

Basically, as you can see from the title I am currently working a 9-5 job in Dublin Monday to Friday. I am also doing a degree part time 3 evenings a week. Mon, Wed & Thurs from 6 to 9.30pm.
I travel home to the Mayo every friday to see my GF.

Since taking up the degree course 1.5 years ago any level of fitness I had is gone to pot.

I currently do absolutely no excercise except my 4k return cycle to college 3 evenings per week.

I would have had a reasonable level of fitness in the summer of '07 and actually completed a sprint triathlon in a slow to middlin time.!

I am looking for any suggestions people may have to regain some level of fitness.
Tuesday night is my only free night mid week and I would love to dedicate it to some severe training, preferably as part of a group or a team. I genuinely need boot camp.!
I am taking up swimming in the mornings before work this week so that should help a little to tone me up.

All suggestions will be really appreciated. I am willing to go anywhere for decent training once it is a cycleable distance..!

Not sure if it is relevant, but I am a man & 29 years old!

    Thanks.

Is using your lunchtime at work for exercise an option? I exercise most lunchtimes.

I had considered that alright. Unfortunately there is nowhere close enough to train to be back inside an hour.

    Thanks all the same.

Don't need to get to a gym to train, bodyweight workouts can be hugely effective. Press ups are a great start, and then moving onto L-sits, headstands, then handstands and handstand push ups. Could put in some elbow levers followed by Plank's in there too, that's at least a years worth of training right there. That's all basic gymnastic training, a large portion of gymnastics is done with no equipment, if you do a short session (10 minutes or so, one set of each workout) about twice a day you should see pretty decent results, although a lot of these exercises require fairly high starting strength, but there's a good few tutorials on-line, a site I recommend is beast skills ( http://www.beastskills.com/ ), he does very advanced workouts (one armed pull ups, the flag etc), but has good tutorials on the more basic exercises.

    Thanks,

I hadn't considered that. will give it 20-30 mins at lunch time. I'm lucky enough to live close by so I can get home.

Still interested in hearing anyones suggestions on a tough work out on a tuesday night. Preferably in a team setting. As I said in my opening post I need boot camp..!!

Went for a swim this morning before work too so pretty happy with myself..!

You start work at 9 ??

    Gym/jog/cycle before work??

I know it will see like a very early start, but your body will adjust to it

Yeah, I get up at 6am each morning to go to the gym - it sounds crazy but really 6 is only and hour before 7. Provided I'm in bed between 10-11pm in the evening it's really not that big a deal, plus you have much more energy for the day and you're less likely to go for a drink/dinner/shopping in the morning (thereby losing gym time) than in the evening.

As for the Tuesday evenings I'd recommend something like an MMA class. I used to do a lot of that and out of all the sports I've done (rugby, soccer etc.) MMA requires the highest level of fitness so the training reflects that. We used to specifically do a lot of conditioning classes. For example, a 90-minute session would consist of 5-minutes sparring and the then the "rest" would be 90 seconds of burpees and jumping jacks. Right at the end we'd finish with 7 min abs. It was **** hard and normally I wanted to die half way through but when you have others lads there with you doing it you get through it ok. Compare this to the gym when you're by yourself for the same amount time and you might not push yourself half as hard.

If you could find something similar near you it would be well worth a look and it would be the sort of 'boot camp' you're looking for :P

Thanks for that piby, I'm psyched at this stage to rising earlier and going for a swim/gym. The other thread here on motivation is a great job..!!
