    1. Old style Fanta - back when it was a bright florescent orange and tasted
wonderful. Not like the pale piss coloured concoction you get nowadays. They where selling the old style Fanta in Portugal when I was there 2002 - great stuff!
    2. Texan bars.
    3. Rowntrees fruit pastilles - not the modern nestle version. The old ones where smaller and tasted much better.

Sparkles (the ice pops from HB) for 10 then 12p

Penny sweets (apple jacks, postman pats etc.)

Astros - anyone remember those? They were NYOM!

    astros1.jpg

    And Wispa Gold, of course!

If I ever leave Cork, I'll miss Tanora. Apparently there are only very few places outside Cork that sell it (just because the yummy tangeriney goodness might be a tad carcinogenic.)

    Wispa Gold, obv.

I miss Cherry Ripe from Australia, and you can get Top Decks over there two, but also Triple Decks, with either Dark Chocolate aswell, or a flavour like Strawberry as the third layer. NYOMMAGE.

Cherry Coke I miss, but it CAN be got in Boots from time to time and I always stock up when I'm in there.

Again, from Australia, Burger Rings, lovely snacks they are.

Oh the double dip, what a treat to get as a wee nipper

A shame I haven't had one in years :( Also the limited run of mint Kit Kats was fab bak in the day

    double_dip_Orange.gif

Oh and I'll never forget the apple sours - small hard boiled sweets in a green metal foil wrapper. They were fairly sour, so strong in fact we used to have competitions between myself, brother and cousins to see who could suck them the longest while maintaining straight face, then up the ante to 2 or even 3 at a time. Innocent times.

    anyone remember He-man bars??

I can't remember what they were, but I remember them being very nice.

I was eating a Milky Way a couple of weeks ago and was thinking they used to be different years ago. Then I checked YouTube and found this ad.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoXJL2hL6kI

I just about remember this ad for the change being on TV.

Ah, I vaguely remember them! Like the original Crispy M&M.

I'll always mourn the loss of Postman Pat sweets :(.

They were way nicer than cripsy M&M. The crunchy bit at the centre wasn't the same horrible rice bit in Crispy M&M's.

    ah yes spearmint!!
    great yokes!

He-man bars were chocolate(well flavored) with some sort of gooey center, cant quite remember the flavor of the center...

I googled extensively for you, rather than doing my essay, and found this quote:
Chocolate with pink goo in the middle of one side and orange goo on the other

Couldn't find anything else though, or any pictures.

Oh My God!!! I had totally forgotten about these though I used to eat them all the time. Wow, memories :)

But yeah I really miss Top Deck. And I did quite like Marble. And as for Woppa Bars I loved them; my sister and I used ALWAYS get the Spearmint one and my brother the Cola one, so I always associated the mint one with girls and the red one with boys. I was weird :D

Faith, your description of that He-Man bar sounds SO incredibly familiar, but I can't for the life of me picture it in my head.

Holy crap - yeh - I used to love Dan Bars! They were orange and had those black gritty bits in them that were very sweet/sour or something... ...yummy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 272 ✭✭sensitive_soul

HB BOOMI ice pops, they were like mini fruits make of frozen juice in a skewer like a kebab, little strawberry, little lemon and a little orange, mmmm.

Lazer bars, hard hard toffee with this white chocolate flavoured coating

Gold Bullion, little alluminium cases filled with gold (toffee)

NERDS, little boxes divided in 2 filled with incredibly sour candies

sentiments- these little toffees with chocolate in the middle, like eclairs but NICER and they came in a bag.

Pop rocks, you can only get them in America now

CHocolate covered pretzels-only in America now but were out here in around 1999.

    MIdnight Marsbars, with black chocolate

Blitz Bars-2kinds one mint and one orange

Terrys Pyramint, dark chocolate pyramids filled with gooey mint findant

    Flipper marshmallows

Caramacs, caramel flavoured chocolate, only in the UK now.

Apparently the makers of Dan Bars, McCowans, have gone bust but maybe another confectionary company will take them up but who knows.

You can get Top Deck in a South African shop in Dublin. The shop is off Jervis street. The name begins with J but I can't remember it.

Goddamnit, they were the best. I've said a number of times on this forum I want them back.

There was a big hoo-haa in the news here in NZ recently about some iconic kiwi sweets that were being taken off the market. It meant nothing to me but loads of people were upset about it. I guess it's what you grow up with!

I don't think Cherry Ripe are all that. Maybe its the coconut that doesn't really do it for me. As far as Burgers rings go I reckon they taste exactly the same as Burger Bites only they are in ring form.

Gimme Irish and English choccie and chippies any day. There is so much more selection over there than there is here. No Johnny Onion Rings, Skips, Tayto Spring Onion Crisps, Monster Munch, Bag o' Bones or Scampi Fries which were some of my favourites from back in the day :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,035 ✭✭✭homerun_homer

Does anyone remember Quatro bars? They were 8 blocks of chocolate with different soft centres in each pair (4 different flavours in all). One was minth and the others were.. can't remember, Orange maybe.
Anyway, they were around when I was really young and anytime people get nostalgic of old sweetws I think of them, top of the list.

    That and He-Man jelly.

I used to love getting the blackjacks that came in little rectangular pieces for 1p and drumsticks for 5p. Especially when the wrapping paper didn't stick to them!! Still remember the intense pride I felt upon eating around 25 drumsticks in one day:D
