Looks interesting as long as more famous landmarks get destroyed. Is this the one with John Cusack in it?

Roland Emmerich doesnt make films, he makes trailers.

These 90 second trailers are then padded out to two hours to give the illusion of a film so you can imagine what the end product is like. Talentless hack.

I agree with how this is pleasantly explained. Same formulas over and over... :(

    Hi all
    Saw the trailer for 2012
on apple and thought it was worth mentioning. Found it chilling to be honest.

Then saw the IMDB info and saw John Cusack is in it.:(

Someone should kill Roland Emmerich for crimes against cinema.

im actually kinda intrigued by this.

i love a good disaster movie and the cast is pretty good.

but emerich and co have kinda fallen into a rut lately. basically since godzilla i dont think theyve done anything that is really more than pretty CGI pap. i couldnt even work up the energy to go see 10k bc. its funny in a way theyre almost producing "b" movie blockbusters. its a sorta "framwork" storytelling where whats going on is designed to just lead up to the next CGI set peice.

still theres a place for this sort of stuff and if its a good popcorn muncher it could be fun.

christ knows if it was out now id go see it as its been a wasteland as far as im conscerned for the last few months. literaly NOTHING i want to see out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭Rabies

It'll be the same formula as his previous movies. Disaster, un witting hereo trying to find and save his girl/family, fighting all odds, big kiss and hug at the end. Ta daaaaaa. Movie over.

If its something visually fun and worth watching once for it mind numbing dumb scenes, then like most people. I'll still watch it. Stupid fun is good fun at least once.

    Day After Tomorrow 2?

This time the CGI wave is somewhat more realistic.

Going by the title of the film im gonna make a guess the film is about the End of the World has the Mayans predicted ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,754 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

Going by the director of the film I'm gonna make a guess the film is ****.

(and how come that "youtube" link goes to imdb...?)

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Roland Emmerich seems to be the only director who can do it too.

Looks good, haven't seen John Cusack since 'Identity'. Looks like a mix between 'Deep Impact' and 'The Day After Tomorrow'.

    hmmm

I'm tired of the whole world ending disaster film lark but i got to respect the trailer for not having a 2 min overview of the plot.

I know but I can't help but love these types of movies!! The Road is another one in a similar vein, love the book but I think the movie will be very different to the novel! This looks like a great blockbuster.....don't know why I enjoy seeing the world destroyed in so many different ways but it's fun to watch when it's not real!:D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭Sleazus

Not a big Emmerich fan. I think everyone has a soft spot for Independence Day and the Stargate film was okay, but The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla and 10,000 BC were terrible... just terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

This will definitely be a big hit outside the U.S, what with Emmerich's love of all the world's major cities in his movies :D CGI looks amazing in some parts and not in others but I'd say it'll look great in 6 months time, it's got my €10 anyway now

    Not out till November!

Look at this though, I LOVE this book, this looks even better even though I have my reservations cause I love the book

I thought this thread was about 2012 not The Road??

Anyway, I thought McCarthy's book was brilliant, but I don't have great hopes for the movie, certainly not based on the trailer.

As for 2012, that's just jumping on the Mayan prophecy bandwagon, we've seen it all before. Just another 're-boot' of your typical end-of-the-world-type movie from Hollywood who seem to have had a lobotomy as regards originality these days.

Sorry any way to change thread name to end of world movies???

Anyone read 2012 by Whitley Strieber ?

    Link

I was a bit miffed when I heard the film will be a 'blockbuster' america wrecked and a couple of token Eiffel Tower/Big Ben/Kremlin destruction shots.

I really thought someone would have the balls to make a film of that book.

The 'V' meets close encounters :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,127 ✭✭✭Linguo

Ah excuse my ignorance I didn't actually realise it was a book! Is the book good?

    Good short review here

To be fair I think it has flip all to do with Emmerich's film.

I just think a 'Matrix-like' where the hell did that come from twist would have made a lot cooler (tho-less profitable) film than the CGI fest - Everyone hugging each other - America is great - Sh*tfest we're gonna get

Sounds good, it's always hard reading a book first and then having high expectations for the movie, hence me and my bf being worried about The Road...fingers crossed though

I just can't wait to see John Cusack in another "gotta fund my small indie projects" film. I mean come on, wasn't he the bomb in Con Air? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭purple_hatstand

Cusack is always worth watching - real charisma - whatever miserable dross he's in...

Well a fair few did in Deep Impact and the day after tomorrow!

But I think we're meant to be up for mankind!! I get more upset when I see animals dying in these movies, my bf is the same, thats odd:D

looks promising, but I hope its not another generic disaster movie, which it could likely be.

Films often contain scenes of action and thusly is how a mood of transferrance is formulated
