You would probably want to be going a couple of times a week for it to make any difference, but would guess that if you are trying to start a fitness programme its at least getting you started and is low impact - you can make it as difficult or as easy as you like by giving it welly or not.

Deffo give it a go and see how it works for you,

Like anything it depends on the effort you put in.

One of the most tiring thing I'ver ever done is play 'keep away' in about 1-1.5ft of water. Was absolutely shattered running around in that water.

Yea its hard going but much easier on the joints and as you say its what you put into it,at the end of the day its up to yourself.
Lost another 2 1/2 lbs this week and am putting most of it down to Agua Fit and of
course a diet.Im feeling great about myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to do it when I was heavier and found it good. However, I found, as my fitness improved and my weight dropped, it needed to be supplemented with more strenuous activity to keep losing.

Yes, as weight drops a few things will happen. Your metabolism will drop since you have less tissue to maintain, i.e. a baby lying in bed all day needs less food than a man lying in bed all day, more energy is required to keep them warm & ticking over. As your weight drops your food intake needs to also.

Also at high weight you are effectively weightlifting all day long. It used to take me 1 hour to cycle to work, now 20mins. So if going a set distance walking or running you might increase the time or go a different route. If I put 20kg in a bag to mimic what I weighed back then, then my time will shoot right up again, though not to 1 hour.

holly- some great weight loss there, do not be disheartened when it slows down though. Most would recommend 1-2lb fat loss per week max, I would recommend only 0.5lb. The slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off. The fat will come off slower now, but think of it as percentages too, i.e. a 20stone man losing 2lb a week is similar to a 10stone man losing 1lb per week. The smaller you get the less you are capable of really losing per week.

You could also do some resistance training which is low impact and amazing for fat loss. Check out www.simplefit.org

    That was a good post.

How heavy were you dude to take 40 mins longer than you do now to cycle to work?!

Close to 15stone, never went much over 14-3/4stone and said something had to be done! I am now around 12-1/4stone, 11.5 at my lowest. So not 20kg of actual weight loss, but I reckon ~20kg of fat lost and some muscle put on.

I was on a mid-low range mountain bike then too though, now am on a speedier hybrid. I sometimes go on another mountain bike just to exercise more (you expend more energy over the same distance due to energy losses in suspension and the fat tyres having more resistance on the road).

I was so unfit I had to get off and walk at 2 points, thats why it took 60mins :o. But well worth doing. To walk to the bus stop, wait, get bus, and walk to work takes longer. Last time in a car it took 40-45mins and I said never again! I have walked it recently in around 70mins too.

Cycling is a great low impact exercise too. Not only do you save the huge cost of a car/bus to commute, but you do not have to set aside time to exercise, so have more free time in the end. Once reasonably fit you will get to most places in dublin quicker on bike than car, and no stress! Exercise in the morning really wakes you up too.

i love aqua aerobics and infact ind it much easier to part take in than step aerobics or walking.... anyone who loves water will love it!! ad those who cant swim but comfortable in water will love it!! its a lil tough at first, but involves burning and toning. its amazing how using floats underwater can help you burn etc...

    give it a go :D

Aqua fit is like most fitness classes though - it all depends on the instructor. Have had classes where I have really felt the burn and then other classes where the instructor seems to be just going through the motions and time wasting.

If you are new to the class and feel that it is not great, try and find a new instructor, because a good class is a great workout.
