Fat burning pills

Maybe this has been covered before and if so feel free to redirect me to a previous thread. I have recently started going to the gym and cut out all the unnecessary crap like tayto, coke, chocolate, etc. I play indoor soccer twice a week and try go 2 the gym twice a week also. I am looking for recommendations from people who have used fat burning pills to good effect or similar products. Ok I know most people would not recommend them and will just say to keep going to the gym and not bother with fat burning pills but I would just like to try them and see does it does anything extra. There are products in argos or even products on the web so I would be willing to try anything. I could do with losing approx.2 stone. If anyone’s interested my diet consists of usually:

Breakfast – tea with brown bread/ sometimes cereal
    Tea/coffee usually at 11 o clock break
Lunch – usually dinner, either chicken, beef, spag. Bol. or watever’s on the menu
Evening tea – can be anything from sandwiches to a bowl of cereal late at night

If anyone has any suggestions about my diet that would be great also. I know there’s not much fruit in it but I have never really been a fan of fruit.

Rule number 1, my friend - get the diet right. Pills won't do jack unless you have that nailed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭lg123

Try cut the carbs from your evening meal, the energy you consume here will not get burned off in front of the tv or while you are asleep. eat something like high fibre veg + meat/fish, fruit + cottage cheese, salad + meat. cereal's are packed full of sugars and imo should only be eaten after exercise/training, if at all. as in cereals i mean corn flakes, frosties, rice crispies etc.

re the fat burners, i would leave them until your weight loss has slowed. dont know what weight you are coming from but the first of the two stones you want to loose should be the easiest, i would consider leaving the fatburners until then. they could be a milestone reward.

You are setting yourself up for an epic fail.

How are you going to know if these magic pills do "anything extra" if you don't try loosing fat using the traditional methods first? --> Dedication to diet & exercise.

"Fat burners" usually do no such thing. They might tweak your metabolism or your body's temperature slightly but if you're overweight and eating a bad diet they aint gonna do jack.
the best way to burn fat is to excercise, cut out sugar, watch portion sizes and be carefull when you eat carbs and fats.

Good point Boss! I know these weight loss pills only work (if they do work:confused:)if your exercising and eating the correct food but I just presumed if I can eat properly and exercise regularly then I just thought that they might add to the process of weight loss. Most people's advice are to stay clear but they seem to have worked for some people so I was just looking for recommendations as to which products might be of use.

Well I am 14 stone male, about 5ft 9 and half. Ideally I would like to lose about two stone and get to a weight where I can start to build up muscle,i.e. lose the fat and then build up muscle. :D

I have also been wondering about these fat burners. I am no expert at all but one of my mates is getting them after advice from an acquaintance.

The acquaintance only came back from being abroad and had gone up to 14 stone. He went to the gym nearly every day and used the fat burners and he lost 2 stone very fast. He's back about 6 months now and he is very ripped.

My other mate who is now going to try them started going the gym and playing football over the last year and is now going the gym 5 times a week. He went from 16 stone down to about 13 through normal exercise and watching his diet a bit more. But he feels he can't get rid of some of that excessive fat particularly on the belly and man boobs area. So he is going to start taking the fat burners, I think it's a month's dossage. It will probably do him good as he is benching more than the cardio.

I have also been offered them but I am not too sure as I have only been going the gym properly for about 3 weeks although I am going 5 times a day and I am watching my diet. I have lost nearly a stone and can really see it in my face that I am not as bloated but for the amount of work I do I would like to see some more results in my belly and man moobs area too. I am doing a mixture between cardio and weight machines at the moment. I am about 12 stone 4 at the moment and 5'8. Would the pills be any good for me at this stage or should I keep going the gym 5 times a week and watching my diet for now and see if I continue to lose weight

    Stop looking for short cuts.

Your diet is sh!te. See quote below from ... erm... yourself:
Is it wise to just eat breakfast and go drinking so you can look slim and fit to go out for the weekend?

Pills are over marketed tripe. Diet in order first and then exercise should burn the fat

It use to be a lot worse! I was liking the results I seen last weekend that's why I was just a little dispointed this week that I went back to eating the 5 small meals a day and working out that I actually put on a bit of weight and look a small bit bloated again

Rome wasn't built in a day. Give it time.

How much do you drink per day?

It depends on if I go to the pub early or not. Tonight I am planning on just having 4 pints in the local and then maybe 6 bottles in the club.

tomorrow is a big sports day so I could have 8 pints in the pub, then go out and have 6 bottles and a few vodkas and red bulls.

    I like a drink.

You are killing yourself 5 days a week in the gym burning calories then drinking them back on at the weekend.

    Pointless.

If i was you I'd be more worried about the excessive calories you are taking in from alcohol, rather than worrying about food or exercise.

You need to go educate yourself on nutrition / diet / fitness / alcohol.

    Pints: 8 * 230 kCals
    Bottles: 6 * 150 kCals
    Red Bull + Vodka: (150 kCals + 80 kCals) * 2

That's 3200 calories, enough for the day.
How many hours in the gym would it take to burn that off?

If you have to drink you could just have a diet coke and vodka? ( 1kCal + 80kCal)

By the way, congrats on losing that stone.

    Go here: www.fitday.com

Create an account and then put in a full day's eating including your alcohol intake.

Marvel at the amount of calories in even modest amounts of alcohol.

Yeah I have no education on that as I am only new to it after not giving a crap about my health for years now. That's why I have all the questions on this board. Surely you are all not teetotal though. What do you do at the weekends if you want to go for a drink. I am sure all the big foreign guys in the gym are drinking loads at the weekends, they love a drink as well

on the fat burning pills name, I won't be able to get it until tomorrow but I'll post it up when I find out if it's allowed. not sure if those things are legal or not

What a charming sweeping statement. Are all black folk thieves and women who wear short skirts slags too?

    .

The only thing about the vodka though is I was thinking about giving that up as it was leaving me in bits with anxiety for a couple of days after and I can't sleep. I am usually alright when I stay on beer. But Maybe if I am having the Vodka with diet coke rather than an energy drink I won't have as bad anxiety

Ah yes, alli, the OTC version of Xenical, who's most notable side effect is anal leakage after over consumption fatty foods. Yum.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 381 ✭✭DAVE_K

I've tried the Maximuscle Thermobol there at the start of the year.

The first day i was on them I spent almost the whole day exercising thinking "THIS IS 4UCKING GREAT". No sleep the first night. I just gradually found myself getting more wired as the days went by and getting strange aching pains in my head. Half the bottle of pills is still home in the cupboard - maybe they'd have done something if I could have gone through the crap involved in being on them....but for my limited time they did shag all.....I wouldn't recommend them. A bit of extra cardio/muscle/watch the diet would do a lot more.

Venom is pretty good alright, but the worst side effect with it for me was horrible insomnia, and that got worse the longer I took it. iirc Venom isn't a fat burner, it's a thermogen, and really the best effect it had was appetite suppression which waned over time.

Effectively the good side effects diminished and the bad ones increased. It's highly doubtful I'll ever take a thermogen or fat-burner again in the forseeable future, over-rated and over-priced and unfortunately they just don't do what they say on the tin.

    Still, 'twas a learning experience.

My mate was first telling me about them in the pub and I said are there any side affects and he said it makes your penis shrink. I was like feck that no way am I taking them and he was saying it's grand when you are erect like. Obviously he didn't say penis or erect when describing but I don't want to be too rude on here. So the other day in the gym when he asked me did I want them I said no way, i don't want my fellow shrinking that's me pride and joy and he said "did I not tell you I was only joking about that" - Eh no!

I already have a problem with insomnia so looks like I will defo just stick to the excersise and diet. One of the first things I said to my mate was does it give you trouble with your heart. I have awful trouble trying to sleep for a few days after heavy sessions. Right before I go to sleep my muscles in my body jump and I become wide awake after feeling like my heart was sinking. It looks like these pills would probably be not good for me as I try to beat that. Funny enough since I have started going the gym I have had much better sleeps

I took non-stimulant based fat burners a couple of years ago (Isatori Lean System 7, herbal) before but my diet was excellent and I was going to the gym 5 times a week and they helped me get over the final hurdle of hitting 9% bodyfat. Plus I was impatient and curious and shallow ha!

I recently purchased "controlled labs reduction", a new stimulant based fat burner which comes in two forms of tablets; am and pm, 2 in the morning and 2 before bed.

I'm taking them because I can basically, I want to take them and they will encourage me to be even more stubborn and watch what I eat even more. I have a two month supply and they will take me up to Xmas, I will probably enjoy a few bud lights over 3 weekends in that period and that's it.

Fat Burners work(for me anyway), but only if you know what diet and nutrition is about in it's most basic form and more importantly, if you know your own body. I'll be going to the gym 3 times a week and breaking my balls when I'm in there, I also practice Krav Maga on tuesdays and will continue to do so, so I'll be "exercising" 4 times a week. Oh, and I'm currently 203lbs and according to the accumeasure, about 13/14% bodyfat.

I'm using Reflex Thermofusion for the last 3 weeks. I'm finding them pretty good, easy to take and no side effects. They were recommended to me by a friend that plays rugby who wanted to become more lean.
