Hi All, i've been reading over this forum for the last few months and have been very encouraged by the suggestions and knowledge people possess so now i'm in need of this.

i'm 30 years old, in 2007 i done a half marathon and the cork marathon (well i had to walk half due to a fall but i finished it) i started running from scratch my only previous experience was playing soccer from which i gained a good level of fitness and graduated to doing a marathon training program but soon after i done the marathon i tore my ACL playing soccer and had to to have reconstruction surgery in april this year. I have been told by the physio recently that i'm all clear to resume playing soccer.

here's the problem, i seem to have lost a lost of speed and strenght. i have done all the rehab that the physio has suggested and done it to a t. but i played a game last week and felt like i was 18 years old again and the game was passing me by, i play at a high standard so i won't get a look in unless i can address this. up until i done the marathon i was in peak fitness and had good body shape but i seem to has lost all that even though i have not put on much weight (7lbs since my marathon weight which was 11st)

i'm the kind of person that needs to have something to aim for so i'm hoping for some suggestions to help me regain peak fitness and help tone my body again into decent shape. i am thinking of aiming for the cork marathon next year or maybe a half triathlon but i do love to play soccer so i'm not sure would i get this training schedule in.

would any of ye recommend what kind of trianing i should be doing, too first off get toned/stronger and some speed back to have a foundation before i look at a marathon/triathlon. i've been concentrating on getting me knee right i think the rest of my body may have suffered. any help much appreciated. :)

p.s. my diet isn't much of an issue as i generally eat very well.

I had a bunch of injuries that have kept me from playing too and lost a load of speed, i feel like a tortoise chasing a hare, i have no advice but i'll keep an eye on any answers people give back to you

    its depressing being slow :(

one question, how the hell did you recover from an acl tear that quickly? i thought it was 9 - 12 months recovery

Whatever you do, don't play soccer that quickly, ease back into it. Leg injuries(from my own personal experience) can be so ****ING deceptive. Don't get cocky just because you don't feel that "twinge" you used to feel.

Leg injuries are like that guy everyone likes but he is secretly banging your girlfriend; deceptively sly.
