    hey all,

I'm trying to get into jogging to regain some sort of fitness...have being going to the gym and using threadmills for too long now which i just find so boring.

Just wonder if anyone has any beginner tips or beginner programmes that they found helpful... I went out for my first jog last night and was wrecked after it...managed 2.5km which isnt great i know but any advice to help me better would be appreciated...
Ideally i'd like to aim towards a 5k run and then 10k etc etc

    cheers

I was similar to yourself (in fact I still find running shockin' boring). I think there's a hump you need to get over before running is an aerobic exercise / something that you can maintain over medium to long distance.

I've heard good things about couch to 5k. You're on the right track anyway. (badum-tish!)

Just ahead of you on the running thing, op. Gone from 100metres max :D to 10k since August. Im still struggling, but getting there. My only advice as a noob, is run at a steady, but not to mad, pace. Go for as long as you can, then walk till you get your breath back, then continue. Give yourself a set distance to cover, and do it by whatever combination of running/walking you can manage. Then each time you do the route, aim to shorten the time it takes. (Even if its only half a minute, it shows you your making progress).

Right now Ive been advised to start doing sprints to get me over a plateau and give me more strength. Ill let you know how that goes!

Run away from your starting point in a linear way. Reason being, if you've a park nearby and go run laps of it you're likely to give up and go home when the going gets tough.

Run 5k+ away from your home and one way or the other you gotta make it back :)

But initially, just take it easy and grind out a km here and there till you're up to 5 and it gets easier from there.

Buy proper running shoes. Listen to your knees!
