Thinking of joining Riverview, but the joining fee and monthly subs are huge! Anyone have any experience of it? Or is there anything cheaper in the area...

The place is huge. Lots of indoor tennis courts etc.
All depends on what you're looking for.
You'd probably get better value for your money in Crunch UCD or Friarsland.

The way I look at it is that it's only worth the cash if you play alot of Tennis and don't want to play out of doors. Otherways you are paying for alot of expensive facilities you're not going to us.

Thanks for those tips... I'm still undecided, mainly because I'm afraid I won't go...

I'd recommend you go down & ask for a trial at Riverview and see what you think. Then go and have a trial in Westwood Sandymount and the gym in Ballsbridge - could be Jackie Skellys and then make your decision based on rates/hours/accessibility etc. Some of the gyms do a months pass around Xmas so ask the gyms about this - it might be the way to go to see if you use it.

If you're not dead keen on the gym idea don't sign up as it will be a waste of money! Just walk and go for a swim at a pool where you can pay as you go - it will be alot cheaper.

If you are not going to go to the gym and think joining up will give you some temporary morale boost; it will, but then you will come crashing back down when you realise you have paid close to a grand for a year and you don't go.

Don't be ridiculous. Possibly the most stuck up, horrible, horrible atmosphere, horrible people, it's just disgusting.

I quit my memebership for these reasons last year. They just make you feel uncomfortable. It's SURROUNDED with kids and moody D4 teenagers.

    STAY AWAY.

lol yeah, she is right. My girlfriend is a member there and I went there before and had to laugh. Full of the "polo neck crew" i.e. they wish they were really wealthy but they are not and act wealthier and snobbier than the people who are wealthy ha

Must say that I find the staff friendly and helpful in Riverview and generally a fairly pleasant atmosphere. I'm not sure what specific experiences you had which leave you with such a sour taste in your mouth. My only other gym experience for comparison was Westwood Leopardstown and found the staff disinterested and in some cases downright nasty.
