    Hi,
Does anyone do spinning classes? I did my first one on Monday and found it good but the saddle was so sore! Think it left an imprint in my ass  Yesterday I felt fine but today I can feel the results of a good workout in my legs. Gonna give it another try this evening. Physio recommended spinning as a break from running, easier on the joints.

I do a lot of spinning and love it! Its good exercise but make sure to mix it with some other cardio as well. I think with spin the key is to always drive yourself to work that bit harder

Well it definaltey made me sweat and I felt I got a good workout. Hopefully I'll get used to the saddle! No pain no gain as they say.

That class looks dead hard. I actually find the normal excersise bike really hard on my ass and uppper legs. I know they say no pain, no gain but I do be in rag order. When I done my assesment the girl said it doesn't really matter what cardio you are doing once you are in the disired heart rate you will burn fat no matter what. I find I can do 40 minutes on cross trainer and burn lots of calaries but on the bike I would do 20 minutes but I wouldn't burn as much as I do on the cross trainer cause I am in bits so cannot put as much effort in with the pain. Have seen the results over the last few weeks and maybe when I get that bit fitter and stronger in the legs I will try out the spinning class

    yes, lots :)

saddle soreness can usually be sorted by making very sure the bike is set up correctly for you (saddle height and fore/aft position, also handlebar height) also ensure that you aren't bouncing too much in the saddle (on flats etc) can tweak the resistance slightly up in order minimise the bounce effect

you might find that a gel saddle cover may ease your posterior into this new exercise, but try to migrate to the regular saddle over time... alternatively some cycling shorts can help too...

if you are using 'proper' Star Trac spinning bikes here is the correct set-up for you on the bike, get the instructor to go through the set-up with you to ensure it is all a-ok for your ride...

    enjoy :)

Thanks Dub! Never thought of the padded cycling shorts, brill idea! Guess what I'll be spending my lifestyle voucher on ;)

Andy the thoughts of 40 mins on a cross trainer kills me. I'm not good in the gym on my own, I'd rather go for a run or do classes. The spinning classes might look hard but I bet a 45 min class would pass by faster than 20mins on your own on the bike. Go on, give it a try! You know you want to!

I'm sure I'll try it at some stage. I honestly don't mind going for 30-40 on the cross trainer. Usually one of my mates will do it for about 20 so you can still have a chat while warming up then stick the ear phones on. I don't do it every day anyway. some days I'll just do 20 then about an hour doing weights. I didn't go gym yesterday and had a curry (tuesday's my day off) so I am going to run the hell out of myself tonight!
