10-11-2008 12:49pm#1Ok, so at the beginning I want to say that since I'm new here I have no idea if it's ok for me to post such thread.
Anyway I just want to say that there are a manga style artists in Ireland and even since my shabby skills I count as one of them
And if there are more of you people I would like to see your works for sure ^^
As a starter I want to say that I started drawing 5 months ago and I plan on making my own mangas titled: "Netherlay" and "Undead"
As for example of my shabby works let's put some OC's made for my mangas:

Sometimes I draw character made by other people if they would aks me it was like this in case of Mitsuki:
Sometimes I draw a bit ... for fun. You know: in the summer I made few such drawings:
For Halloween I made this:
Few hours later I changed it into this (with little witch drawn by my friend.... but coloured by me XD):
Since in my mangas would appear divine creatures and monsters... I draw also such things:
I done fanart only once... and this is how it ended... (shabby isn't it?):
OH! And I almost forget! Feel free to ask some questions or put comments here! I would be pleased!

Interesting Drawings Dan, just wanted to properly welcome you to boards
The hand colouring is quite good, have you thought about maybe switching over to photoshop and colouring that way?
I'm not much of an artist myself so i wouldn't really be able to give any substantial advice other than the above but i can appreciate art none the less (did dabble a bit few years ago but woeful at drawing!)
I don't know much about drawing Manga style art but i only know its a tough gig, just keep at it and then learn how to use photoshop to touch up your pictures and they can make so much of a difference0 -

On my DA gallery profile (link in first post) you may find my arts with characters profiles ^^ (their age, basic storyline etc.)
Also after first year of training (or sooner) I plan on making two mangas. I have the story, yet not all characters profiles were drawn ^^'

Yet I wanted to learn "origins" firstly XD.
Anyway: to draw manga You don't even need to be able to colour things in fact... I wanted to try it only to better show of my characters.
I think I'll need to learn photoshop or other program in nearest future to add a bit spicy to my works ^^'. That's the main reason why I digitaly keep also the linearts.0 -

I have a few projects now. At work we have quite hard stuff to... and I wanted to try learning one nice program XD (trully nice, I should colour with it no less good than with photoshop and even quicker... if I learn to use it properly ^^')0 -

Never heard about hem... but... it sound COOL ^^. It's definitely worth looking at, and I'll do it for sure XD. About competition... Heh... it's NEEDED to be a mangaka. Yet my skills are still quite raw... Anyway drawing own characters is the greatest fun since you can create them in 100% yourself. Ok... so about Sephiroth I have only such sketch till now:
I guess that many people like Sephiroth since he was really good villain character... that makes the number of people that would be angry about my doodlish drawing REALLY HUGE....
I want to remind that I'm rather..... not very used to drawing male characters... also Sephiroth isn't easy.
Sephiroth looks cool... but his outfit style etc are quite high detailed which makes him uneasy to draw ¬_¬....
Also the poose I choosen was meant to be cool since We can see SEph pointing his sword in similar way often... it always looks kinda cool... it is most proabably first time it doesn't T_T

em well it does'nt really look like him im afraid,but at least you gave it your best shot and I appreciate you attempting to draw him,heck its a better effort than I ever made,work on his face,I thinks thats the bit thats really off.maybe give aeries or tifa abash?seeing as you seem to be better at drawinig female characters,you even said that yourself.0 -

I somehow lost a bit power for fanart... To enjoyence I found the first original official image o Sephiroth XD (most original ever You may say ^^...):
As You may se... this dude damn evolved to be shown realistically in Advent... where as for me his face was a bit strange.... Yakuza like XD. But still his battle and texts were more than awesome ^^
I drawn in fact him in a suit we can see in Kingdom Hearts 2... I think it was a bit more interesting. Maybe coloured piece would looks better but... ehh whatever. I know I'm totaly shabby right now.
Oh and about colouring my Mahou Shoujo Zeta... somehow her mouth looks really weird. Maybe the colour used was to bright ^^'? But the clothes looks awesome XD! Good work overall.

Ok one thingy:
In fact face seem to be ok... but it's hair is another story.
I drew his hair like in kingdom hearts 2 where it's a bit lower and more regular (without his left front hair standing in strange way). Also head i a bit lowered...
My question is:
Do I should change hair to a more known original FF style? it's pretty easy... and changes face look a bit....

If someone didn't check my DA gallery and is interested how my rough sketches (without bold edge lines and bug fixing) look like, here I have one of my newest projects. It's Hasdiel ^^ (one of angels of benevolence in Christian beliefs):
I hope You like my interpretation. For info: only sketch like that took 2 hours of work (1,5h drawing and 0,5h thinking about design).... yeah..... I'm rather still slow at drawing ^^'0 -

I also loved the Strikers series but..... what is so familiar? Hair ribbons XD? (one of most popular adds in hair for anime girls ^^ )
I feel honoured but my style is quite........ different (I would say more shabby but already have few people beatin gmy head once I tell I'm shabby ^^' )
Hmm... Seriously hair is more similar to ninja girl from Mahou Sensei Negima... and the wings....... the hell if I know.... I just draw wings this way... I dunno if ANYONE draw them them this way (which puts in serious question if I draw them well ^^')
Hmmm... finiding lookalikes is nice hobby. I have friend from Phillipines with such..... dammit, sometimes she makes me even angry. She could find a look-alike for any second drawing of OC I make (better than this example prime... even better)... that is like poking with... no straw but dagger... I always feel less original... yet She say to not worry because like she say: "There is very small possibility of NOT finding look-alike in any anime or manga! If you would just think that the thousands of characters were made you'll tell yourself that it's impossible for them to not have similarities with the others!". She believes I'm original.... at least for clothes as she say.
Seriously: Lookalikes are a problem for a new artists.
PS: That friend of mine knows at least 3 times more anime and manga series than me... I know many, believe me.
PS2: I LIKE RIBBONS XD! Just bear with the fact that I put them on many female characters in many ways... in fact I also like chains but this time they weren't really good to put them here ^^'0 -
Oh, btw: Hayate Yagami's (on picture) and mine Hasdiel's staffs both were designed on middle ages bishops staffs. I recommend checking them since their designs were beatifull ^^ ! There were only few main designs... I don't remember name of this one.... need to check my notes ;P0 -

C'mon Zeta is based on My Sis XD (Nanoha would not even stand her personality seriously... did You ever hear Nanoha were Sadistic ^^ ?)
Also scythe... is rather in totally different style... also Sedah's clothing isn't even near to any from any Nanoha series ¬_¬ (to violent gothic punk style... not proper for children XD). Not ot mention her psychodelic personality profile ^^' (My weird imagination nods here)
In fact whole Mahou Shoujo have similarities amongs them.
Ribbon on legs... didn't ever notice
... also those on hair are a bit different (in 4 stripes not double) I think it was from TsuyoKiss... but don't remember in how many anime and manga it appeard...
It' normal that some similarities appear but we cannot spread paranoya like those saying that Rito from To Love Ru is copy of Kazuki Muto from Busou Renkin (DAMMIT PEOPLE! Only their hair and fact that both wear shirts makes them similar!)

EDIT: Oh about the book... dammit it's fact but... I had to draw book for Hasdiel since in stories she's meant to have Diligo Lirbi (Book of Love - Book that was meant to have written God's knowledge about interpersonal meaning and signs of love)... Same goes for a venus sign... since Hasdiel is called Angel of Venus ^^' (now prime would check connection with Sailor Moon stories for sure XD.... unfortunately this time I dunno if there are any since I didn't watch Sailor Moon ^^'... yeah... I just signed own name in death note saying that... all crazy Sailor Moon girls would start hunting for me XD )0 -

Note the name of the character the theme in the last video belongs to. Now look at the name of the first guy in this. :rolleyes:
