Just been thinkin about this all day

I was gettin a yogurt and the average calories / pot for a normal sized yogurt was about 130 calories

then I saw the Vitalinea ones, and they claim to be Fat Free, Sugar Free/No Added Sugar, and only 56 Calories per pot

and they're the same as say a Yoplait yogurt

    Does that sound right?

And is false Nutritional Info a common thing?

I tried to look up the ingredients of the Vitalinea yoghurts on-line and couldn't find anything, but I'd hazard a guess that the flavouring in the Vitalinea yoghurts comes primarily from artificial sweeteners and they're bulked up with thickeners like guar gum. They'll be as true to real yoghurts as Weight Watchers' ready meals are true to a home-cooked meal :pac:

You also need to compare calories per 100g. Some quote cals per pot, some per 100g and some per portion, without mentioning that they think one pot is two portions.

How big were the pots though? many times they hide the weights away, e.g. it might be a 6pack with an overall weight you must calculate. This is a common tactic to hide the fact the portion is small and the calories are often not much different. e.g. wispas, malteasers, aeros, creme eggs, all these hide away the true weight. It might say kcal per 100g, and kcal per bar, and then you have to work it out from that.

Also many low calorie versions are simply watered down, the ingredients might show this, though I do not think they have to actually list water in ingredients lists. You can sometimes figure it out from other info though. e.g. many cooked ham slices are watered down, if you compare protein contents it can show the watered down on has much less protein per 100g.

Some would worry about fat free, as opposed to low fat too. Usually low fat will have very little, and people worry about the further processing needed to get it fat free, i.e. what is worse for you, the little bit of fat or the processing.
