Fifa 09 League (serious edition!)

We have already had a few Fifa 09 leagues which have had various levels of success.

I've started a new league on Fifa 09 on the XBox 360 and I am looking for people who want to join.

Here are a few ideas I have in mind.

-Players must be free to play 1-2 matches per week (2 maximum) against predetermined opponents. It's up to players to arrange a time and date with each other. I think one of the reasons so many leagues fail is that some players will finish all their games by the time other will have played a couple of games (not too realistic).

-Longer games. I'm not talking about 20-minutes a side, but longer than the normal 5-min per half matches.

-Players must commit to finishing the league, regardless of previous results. Again, a problem with other leagues-someone loses their first 5 matches and they don't bother finishing it.

-At the end of each week, we can post the results here and anyone that cares to write a match report is free to do so

The league will run for about 8 weeks and will ideally have about 10 players.

I'll do it. I've played all my games on the other league that are possible, or in other words with players in the league that actually accept the league games. Please give me a decent team though.

I'm going to make teams unique in the league, and players can select any club team they want So everyone should be able to select a 5-star team if they choose. So, in short, no bad teams

While we are here, I'd like to hear players opinions on different ideas...

It looks like we may have far more than the 10 I expected...is everyone happy with 16 teams playing twice (30 matches, 3 per week over 10 weeks?)

I'm going to organise game nights were we all know that if we log in at a certain time, other players should be there. What times suit best? Of course, players do not have to play their games at that exact time. Any time that suits the two players is fine.

Is 7 minutes per half fine for everyone?

With unique teams and lots of players, it's obvious that some people are not going to get the exact team that they are used to. I also do not believe that teams should be first come, first serve. So what I think is the best idea is that everyone send me their 3 preferred teams via PM. I'll randomly assign teams to players. I'll make sure that everyone is happy with their team before we proceed. There are plenty of top teams so shouldn't be a problem.

11 players now. I'm going to cap the league at 20 teams so once that has been reached, I will not be accepting any more entries.

On Tuesday, I will be doing the draw for the teams. The league will then begin on 12 a.m. on Friday 14th November. On that day, I will be sending the password for the league to all players via PM. This will give players the opportunity to get used to their new team and players.

The first set of fixtures will also be posted on Friday. I will post the first 3 sets of games, and all players are expected to have completed their 3 games by Midnight on the following Friday. On Saturday, I will post the next round of fixtures.

I would advise that everyone contact their opponents to organise their games in advance.

Finally, this league is all about showing how much fun we can have with a well organized event. While it will be competative, quitting games and other general poor sportsmanship won't be tolerated. :cool:

One more thing...
If this goes well, I am going to run a second league right after this one. To add some extra competativeness to our first league, I will let everyone in on the plan going forward...the top half of the league will be invited into the Boards Premierleague for the next season, and the bottom half will be invited into the Boards Championship. Not only will players be scrapping for every goal and point this year, we will have 2 leagues next year with teams of similar skill levels. Promotion and relegation will come into effect from season 2 onwards.

Because my XBOX is on its way to Germany to get the RROD problem sorted out, I wont be able to set up the league until I get a loan of my brother console in a few days.

Also, many of you have asked to revert to a first-come-first served system. What I may do is post the password here on Friday evening at a certain time, and players can choose their team right then and there.

Since this is the first league, I'm going to use this to test the waters and to iron out any flaws in the system. So, here is the set-up.

-Players will play each other once, which means about 20 games each.
-Each game will be 7-minutes per half.
-Next season will have 2 leagues so this league should be one big promotion/relegation battle all season

-At the end of each game, you can post your results on the results thread, along with goalscorer information. At the end, we'll have the golden boot award

Yeah i agree and it will probally be better!

How are you going to deal with players who are not playing their games as from experience in other leagues you barely get people on-lin to play against.

Good question VJ. I made it pretty clear in the first post that players shouldn't sign up if they have no intention of finishing the league. Even if you lose your first 10 and you have no hope of winning, I would expect that everyone respects each other enough to finish it out.

This is a league for players who are tired of half completed leagues full of players. And if a player doesn't complete their games, they wont be invited to the next league And that is where the fun will be I have plans

People should be able to get 3 games in per week. By setting a max of 3 games per week, it gives the league a nice pace to it.

I personally dont mind who I get but maybe for all the people joining late, it'd be more fair to raffle teams? If there's 22 in the league, pick 22 of the best teams in Fifa. Then raffle them off. Maybe allow countries to ensure there's a large amount of quality teams to fulfill the demand? Maybe allow people to swap teams once with each other before the league starts if they're unhappy?

I do like the idea of getting there first to pick your team. I think it will work better and is more fair to be honest. Will that mean you'll have to check who has what team when you sign up or say if you pick Barca will the game tell you if someone has already picked them??

what if people are working when the time is up? Not so fair. I'd be happy with the op to randomly pick teams himself. It's not that big a deal for me anyway.

Right, 24 players have signed up which is a great start!

As I said before, most people have asked for the same 3-4 teams with only a few exceptions. This means that few people are going to get a team they wanted.

I'm going to have a think about it tonight and we'll go from there. I'm leaning towards getting a list of the top 24 club teams and randomly distributing them between the players. If players want to swap teams between themselves or choose another club team that is not on the list (write-in), then they can take that team instead. This way, everyone will get a decent team.

If anyone is home today and has some free time, can a list of the best 24 club teams be posted here? I'm sure there are more than 24 teams rated higher than 4.5 stars? Another idea would be to make teams unique per league (if we go down the 2-league road from the start).

Could you not give everyone the same team???? People can mess around with formations and stuff themselves.
