What do you think about when you can't sleep

I don't know what it is, but on those nights when I can't sleep, I am always struck with horrible feelings of fear about things I wouldn't ever usually think about. I think back to events from my past and they always seem much worse and much more frightening. Even when I was about ten or eleven I used to lie in bed, trying to wrap my head about things like the edge of the universe or infinity, and it would always strike fear deep into the pit of my stomach. These days the thoughts are different, but the fear is the same. What do you think about at night when you can't sleep, and do things seem worse?

im a bit like you OP as well, i sometimes just spend hours lieing there worrying about will i have a job in the future/be homeless, relationships that are going on at the moment, but i think iv realised that those worries ARE the reason why im not getting to sleep. maybe your the same?

to get to sleep i usually picture myself in a movie i saw recently as the main actor...... usually porno! :p

Usually, it is because I am thinking about something that I cannot sleep, so I try to empty my mind, with varying degress of success.

I have an attic room and a velux window, jealous much?
I generally just think of everything I have to do the next day, or else just really, really concentrate on my breathing. Or if there's someone in the bed with me who's not related I think about either interfering with them or waking me up, coz if I can't sleep, why should they? I used to just turn on the radio, but for some reason, since pulling several all nighters in a row during my summer exams this year, I'm almost phobic of the 2am-5am slot where there's no presenter or ads, just playlists. It freaks me out to think there's nobody in radioland, it makes me feel lonely :(

Do you not masturbate thinking about a huge greasy chip shop owner with puss yellow teeth and a bulbous beer gut covered with grayish black hair lying in bed next to you? Just wondering like?

Hate that not being able to sleep. Usually coincides with a full moon or a Sunday night after the Saturday night on redbull and vodka....

When I can't sleep- I get up and do the laundry. Even if its 2AM in the morning- ironing, sorting, everything short of putting on the washing machine (which should come with a health warning- it sounds like its just this side of needing permission from air traffic control)....... After I've tired myself out with the laundry- normally I fall asleap. If I'm still not able to sleep- brush down the stairs with a soft brush, and then start to clean the ceramic tiles on the floor downstairs- one by one. I've never made it out of the kitchen- it totally knackers you. If at the end of everything- I still can't sleep- a couple of prescription meds help- even if I'm going to be a zombie the next morning.......
