What's the worst car you've ever driven?

Would be interested in people's opinions as to what the worst car you've ever driven is? (N.B applies only to cars you've actually driven, not just copying Clarkson's opinion!:))

For me it would have to be a 06 Nissan Micra I had for a week while my own steed was in the garage. God how I hated it. There wasn't one thing I didn't hate about it. The engine was like a sewing machine, the gearbox was a pig but the steering was worst of all. It was so light, had no weight or feel at all. The interior was a joke, the cheapest of plastics used everywhere and the seats were like bar stools. I called it the Fisher Price car, I think it's a pretty fitting name.

A close second would be a 04 Jaguar S Type, the V6, I drove for a few hours. Big, wallowy, slow, horribly light steering for such a big car and horrible auto box. Didn't like it at all.

Mitsubishi Pajero. VW gave me a lend of it whilst my Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI was in for a service. It was a death trap in the rain. I lost control and hit the ditch and was only going 30 YES 30 MPH! DEATH TRAP. The 2.5 touareg is fairly under-powered

I had a Toyota Auris for the day yesterday, a thoroughly unlikeable little car. I could hardly say it's the worst car ever, but it p1ssed me off more than I have been in ages.

01 Isuzu trooper SWB Commercial. It had big boy off road tyres when I was working on the new roads. The airbag steering had been replaced with a 3 point wheel because the amount of **** the jeep took it kept bursting. I hated driving this on the back roads. Very unsteady and those tyres were insane let alone the danger of no airbag.

Sorry lads.... Hyundai Accent takes this one. The worst car ever made. The shiny black plastic dash does it for me... Theres a nice bit of a roar off it when you put the boot down, kinda reminded me of a washin machine we once had...

For me it would have to be the Suzuki Jimny, it was only a few days old, but it was such a dog on the road, which to be fair is where these mostly get driven.
Throw in the 80's style dash, the horrible whine from the engine, and the constant nagging voice in the back of your head reminding you that any impact, no matter how minor will probably kill you.

I rented a Ford Fusion 1.4 TDCi in Italy this year. Each morning I woke up hoping it would be stolen or burned out. It wasn't too bad on the autostrada, but was cringingly painful in its vain attempt to negotiate even the most modest of hills, and we spend most of our time in the mountains on twisty roads, being overtaken on blind bends by irate Italian grannies as we screamed "Go on car! Pleeeeeeeeeeeease!" at 5 km/h.

Chrysler Neon probably worst, Rover 75 also horrible. Plenty of mediocre things but those two stood out as being horrible.

    Fiat Seicento.

Nothing much wrong with it, but utterly terrifying at 90mph on a Motorway in spain with 3 lads.

It was fine for pottering aroung though.

Either you're used to cars in segments way above that class of car or you don't have a clue. The Grande Punto is one of the better cars in it's class to drive.

Hired a Vectra two years ago...good god what a pile, it was like driving a sponge cake...
I asked for my money back...needless to say Enterprise didn't oblige...

I'm embarrassed to say that I've even driven one, but the Lada Riva* is by far the worst thing I've ever driven.

*Please note, I was test driving it after repair - I didn't own it.

    I've driven most makes.
Can't disagree with the daewoo matiz, any Chrysler, Volvo 540 or any old volvo for that matter, 3.0 Izuzu Troopers one of the worst things ever built,
All old 3 series beamers, Citroen saxo/ Peugeot 106 all are dislikable cars to drive for me, I could go on but I won't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,815 ✭✭✭✭Anan1

    All old 3 series beamers
You must have driven clapped-out ones, they were all nice to drive. Even the E21 was nice when it wasn't trying to kill you.

A Fiat Uno, that had a hole in the passenger floor and you had to always have a passenger with you to hold the p/s door closed as it was hanging off -fun times:D

Opel/Vauxhall Vectra - absolute rubbish on wheels.

Nissan Bluebird - Like steering a barge.

Ford Orion - everything about it was disasterous.

Chevrolet HHR. Had a rental for 10 days and was approached by a lady in a carpark asking me 'Excuse me Sir, do you really like this car?'

    That about sums it up.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

'99 Rover 400 (1.6) a couple of years ago. Good engine, but driving dynamics were awful (based on an old Honda?). But the worst was a brand spanking new Toyota Corolla back in '02. The blandest car I have ever driven. And I have driven many cars (plenty of them cheap and /or bland) since the mid 80s

Edit: forgot I had a Chrysler Sebring 2.7 V6 convertible during a work trip to Florida a good few years ago. Just as well we rarely discuss American cars here. Sh1te would be a compliment for that yoke.

    04 Hyundai Getz
98 VW Polo, thats some heavy steering
99 Skoda felicia, piece of poorly made uncomfortable rickety awfullness.

TBH, I'm not a car enthusiast in the slightest, but the above experiences made me vow to stay clear of these models.

Daewoo Matiz would get my vote as well, too bad is that I own one:)

Interesting car to drive fast(?) in the back roads, keeps you awake:)

I also "like" the fact that in high winds it goes from left to right but never straight.

Also 95 Nissan Micra was actually quite afwul, not much better that Matiz.

Toyota Liteace 85 was interesting in the bad way, also 88 Ford Escort Van.

Also VW Polo 98, I just find the car really old fashion.

Matiz does seem to get a lot of votes and for good reason as well.

    Hyundai Atoz:o

Biggest heap of crap. Also had a Kia Rio while my own was in for a service...handled ok but EVERYTHING else was woeful. I particularly liked the was the brakes faded to nothing after just one slow down to a roundabout from c.100km/h:rolleyes:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,712 ✭✭✭✭R.O.R

Primera 1.6 (current shape) I had as a rental while my car was in for body work.

Gutless engine and the same seating position as a bus.

1991 Nissan Micra. It was in what would probably have been considered reasonable condition, but it was still a hateful machine. Fortunately only had to endure it for 2 days while my own car was in the garage.

Lived in Boston for a bit with some friends and bought a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina for $1500. It was like driving a boat on top of a bouncing castle. Hilarious automatic gearbox and air conditioning that used to blow hot air in your face one second then cold air. The car was owned by a nun before me and was finished inside in red carpet (including the roof lining). Bashed and dented all over, and one day coming off the highway the front left suspension arm snapped and the car went sliding across a few lanes. Another day on the highway at 80mph and the brakes failed, and about 10 times the alternator failed to work so I had to jumpstart it in the pouring rain after a full day in work. ahhh memories!
