29 rounds? Bit of an overreaction!

Ridiculous gun related fatalities in the States seem to be getting more common. Surely there should be some sort of mandatory IQ/mental health test in place that people should have to take before being allowed handle automatics.

I think they banned assault rifles in private hands in the states. But the legislation that banned it may have expired. The usual "Sunset clause" stuff. Or it may have been a mere byproduct of my whimsical imagination.

Im pretty sure the fact it was an AK and he was an ex con that gun was illegal. The sad fact is because guns can be legally sold it paves the way for the black market to sell guns alot easier. In some cities and states its easy for a standard Joe to pick up an illegal firearm. Sure I was in Milwaukee there last month and some guy asked me did I want to buy a gun

Ex cons cannot get legal firearms as anyone with a criminal record are denied.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 429 ✭✭Myxomatosis

So he's an ex con, obviously still involved with drugs if there's suspicious money lying around, also the fact he's afraid of drug gangs being after him.

He hears a knock on the door and empties his AK-47 THROUGH the door, meaning he didn't have a ****ing clue who was on the other side.

    Just execute the ****.

Thought he was being robbed because there was a knock on the door? He should be put away.

The article said 2 of the kids were dressed like ghosts, so might have been mistaken for the KKK or something - and you WONDER why I said that was a bad idea?

Anyone with about 3 grand can make a purchase of an Ak-47 if you have the right permit afaik.

No, just when it's probable that there will be children waiting for sweets outside. Did he not even know what day it was?? :(

Sure they sell them in the Walmarts over there ffs!! There we were looking for camping gear, when we walked past the gun counter. My OH asked if they were real, and the guy was like, yeah, heres the bullets, see? You want to hold it? On one hand it was kind of cool, holding a real gun, but scary too.

I beleive they do not handle the sale of ammunition however. Basically what you're holding is a really heavy sticked thats otherwised used for hunting deer. Its hardly like you'd ever see an Uzi or an FN P-90 next to the toy section.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,111 ✭✭✭peanuthead

oh yeah it wasnt an uzi at all!!! Oh yeah probably just a hunting gun, but still the closest ive ever came to anything like that!!

Hunting rifle might be fun. Been to the range with handguns before. Desert Eagle has a hell of a kick.

Fair play to the guy, Eventually these Trick or Treaters got what is coming to them.... 12 years trick or treating...... yeah right. It is like Halloween is a licence to vandalise other people property. Last year my friends car got badly egged and the bonnet so badly keyed it had to be resprayed.

I was busy this morning washing a house of mine for the 2nd time in 2 days as they hit again last right with a concotion of Eggs, Toilet Paper and Dog Sh*t of all things. I will be staying there tonight to try and catch the culprits, I have the garden hose and two fire extinguishers ready.

Adolescents cannot leave idle property alone and if more of them got revenge dished out then it might stop them turning into dole drawing, dutch gold drinking, tracksuit wearing skobes in later life.

Yes there are 300 million there and a lot is gangs but it's not a great feeling that anybody can pick up a gun. It's not the amount of % killings with a gun, it's that any retard that gets angry can shoot at somebody.

Because they do have the right to have guns
And this: "An ex-convict who said he thought he was being robbed gunned down a 12-year-old trick-or-treater, spraying nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside his home after hearing a knock on the door" is a fairly good argument why the gun laws should be tightened up immensely. Hopefully Obama will have the cojones to do something about it.

Mumhaabu, I am sorry that your property was targetted by young brats, but do you really think that justifies saying "Fair play to the guy" who shot 30 rounds through his front door at a 12-year old kid who, under the supervision of his parent, knocked politely on it?

"If more of them got revenge dished out" ... for what, exactly, in this case?

No kid obviously should be shot and killed but he probably snapped and had a gun in his possession and unfortunately that happened. 12 year olds don't trick or treat they go out to cause mayhem, and similar scenes are often seen outside youth club and boxing arenas. They do however need manners put into them and if this involves a few wallops then so be it.

At the risk of pointing out the bloody obvious, he was already breaking a few laws. Ex-cons are legally prohibited from purchasing or posessing firearms, so he didn't exactly pick this up at the local Guns-R-Us. What would make one think that more laws would make any difference?

I doubt the Democratic leadership will touch gun control with an eleven-foot barge pole. The much-trumpeted 2006 swing in Congress was not as big as the one in 1996, and gun control was heavily credited (By both Clinton and DNC) for that reversal.

You need to live in the right State, have the right permits, and an AK-47 assault rifle (as opposed to semi-auto) is going to set you back closer to $11,000. (A quick check on gunsamerica shows AKs going for between $11,500 and $18,500)

I don't know about you, but I don't have that sort of money to spend on a rifle.

I would like to make the point that US gun law did not allow this man to have the weapon - he had it illegally. How would stricter laws have helped in this case?

There is an argument to be made that the country would be worse off if only guys like that (ie criminals) were armed. Not a very good argument nor not one that i'd make, mind you. My point is that incident doesn't particularly strengthen the case for greater gun control.

Going by that logic, drug dealers in the UK mustn't have any guns at all, seeing as how they're banned.. oh wait.. :/

Maybe criminals don't obey gun laws and can get whatever they like? hmm?

Theres limited guns in that scenario. Applying that to the US, theres less of a chance that this guy would have had a gun in the first place, let alone a bleedin AK47!

Having guns legalised increases the number of guns on the market. In the UK, they all probably have to be smuggled in, so the point im making is that there is less of them around, so you have less of a chance of encountering a crazy fu**er with an AK!!
