I love the Diorshow one if you're not on a limited budget - its about 32euro. Has a really massive wand tho so be careful. Theres rosewater in it so it doesn't have that chemically smell, i find it has a good volume effect for me anyway.

Its tough to find a good mascara, i got one from Bobbi Brown, don't ask me what its called cause i have no idea!! I just whack it on and get a great effect of long, curled lashes! There's nothing like it before heading out on the prowl at the weekend! :D

I suggest you try the Bobbi Brown concession stands in Brown Thomas, BT2, Debenhams etc..

    Best of luck!

Lancome have a new mascara coming out soon, suppose to be amazing, actually a slight vibration in the brush... waiting list in BT for it already!

Yves Saint Laurent false lash effect mascara is the best i have ever used, bit pricey but worth it.

Max Factor do the best non-clumping one ever - in a black tube, costs about 14 euro. I'm never changing!

lancome is the best for a mascaras, all different types so ask which is best for ani-clumping.

I think alot of it is in the preparation of the lashes, ie the curler, and there are no good ones!!

I've used Dior Ultimate Eyes for ages and was really disappointed to discover that it was to be discontinued. I've used Dior Show the replacement and found it good. However I've since used the YSL Fake Lashes mascara and its amazing. Super long curly lashes with no clumping. I think I'm converted.

Doesn't matter if you use a 2 quid Collection 2000 one if you treat yourself to one of those little comb things and a set of eyelash curlers tbh.

If you want 'fat' eyelashes, ensure that you get a mascara with fibres.

Either way, curl them first ~ heat the curlers with a quick blast of your hairdryer. Then put a coat of mascara on and comb. Curl again. Then another coat then comb.

We do it this way for photo shoots.

You'll be sweeping the floor with them trust me :D

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. Too Face Lash Injection.. It's the best IMHO..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭E.T.

I love the Too Faced Lash Injection mascara too, I've a brown one for during the day and a black one for going out. I also like the Clinique volumising mascara for during the day - I don't find it volumising at all but it defines really well. YSL faux cils is good too but I couldn't wear it all day my eyes are too sensitive.

Carlsberg dont make mascaras but if they did...... :):):)

The Max Factor Masterpiece ( or Masterpiece Max ) is the best mascara to ever grace our shores!!! It goes on very easy with fantastic coverage. I need about two sweeps and have really curled, defined, blackened lashes afterwards. I get a lot of compliments on it and have coverted all my girls to using it!
Its fantastic - worth a try, you will ( hopefully ) LOVE it! :):)

I use 'Fibrewig' mascara, it's from Japan. Doesn't quite live up to its claims to give you 'false eyelashes' but it is very good.

You can get it on ebay.

Max Factor Masterpiece is simply the best out there. I used to use YSL Cils Intense, but since trying Masterpiece, I've never looked back. I have thin blonde eyelashes, and receive compliments from beauticians etc on my lashes - Thanks Masterpiece!

I bought this too. Wasn't super impressed. I prefer to use a base coat such as Lancome Cils Booster XL and then a volumising mascara such as Lancome Hypnose or Loreal Lash Architect.

YSL faux cils for me too.

On a related topic, has anyone ever used one of those home eyelash dying kits? I'm thinking of trying but I'm afraid that I'll either make a total mess of it or have some kind of horrible reaction....thoughts?

I have a MAC mascara but I actually never wear mascara. I just bought it when I was on my big MAC buying spree. I tried it on one day myself and it was quite clumpy - is MAC mascara normally clumpy? Perhaps it's my crap application technique?! :) I might try this Max Factor stuff, see if that's any better for me!

Why not just go to a salon and let the professionals dye them or you the first time?

One tip I'll give you on using the home kits is not to use the applicator in the pack but to use an old cleaned mascara wand. And just do the top lashes first, don't do both sets of lashes together until you've had a little practise.

Use these all the timeand find it quite easy, your guaranteed to blind yourself the first few times, but after that its easy.
Every so often i get it done in the beautician, its only a tenner or so and a much better job, but time constraints means its easier for me to do at home. As suggested use an old mascara wand, its way easier, as the applicators supplied tend to make clumps which always make it harder to apply.

Mac aren't known for their good mascaras.

I'm a mascara fiend and a sucker for trying every new gimmicky one that comes out, but I keep going back to Loreal - Lash Architect and Telescopic in particular.

The Max Factor Masterpiece did absolutely nothing for me, I have to say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,400 ✭✭✭PlayGirl

which is better - max factor masterpiece or masterpiece max ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,150 ✭✭✭LivingDeadGirl

Imho Maybelline, Loreal and Max Factor do the best mascaras that I've come across so far, in terms of choice(volumising, lengthening and curling) and are all reasonably priced. Tbh though I haven't tried very many high end mascaras as I have problems with my eyelashes(short, straight, thick and therefore prone to clumping) so I'm afraid to shell out for them.
I've never tried MAC mascara myself but I've had my make up done in-store and both times the girls used the tiniest amount of mascara, I didn't find this particularly encouraging for some reason!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Benefit's Bad Gal Lash yet!

It's amazing mascara for anyone who wants thick, full lashes!

I always get asked if I'm wearing fake eyelashes.

Last time I checked, it was 22 euro from BT!
    Well worth it, I think!

Also, Eyeko do a good mascara - for big, anime-like eyes!
You can get it for under a tenner in Urban Outfitters.

I love the Benifit one in blue, it looks great under light

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,488 ✭✭✭pikachucheeks

Haven't tried the blue, just the black!
They have a new(ish) purple one out too ...

I'm a bit scared I'll look like a 15 year old rave kid if I start experimenting with colour on my lashes :/

Do you know a good make of comb and curler? Or does it matter? Want to give your way a try but don't want to get a €2 set and then find out that the reason it didn't work was because i got the cheap version! :)

I have long lashes anyways (lucky me) and always use Rimmel Super Lash which i find brilliant. I've always used Rimmel mascaras and find them really good. I recently decided to try out the new Maybelline Colossal one that's being advertised that says it plumps out your lashes, found it was crap! didn't see any difference at all!! Not worth the money!

that's what I thought, but it really subtle, not Pat Butcher- like LOL

I can't believe Bourjois-Volume Clubbing hasn't been mentioned yet. I have really long eyelashes so I am always on the look out for volume. I have used most of the really expensive ones but ALWAYS go back to Volume Clubbing in Ultra Black. It makes them so think and noticeable, I am always getting accused of wearing fakes! Get it in boots for between €10-12

Just as a side note, it really annoys me on all the ads for mascara where it says "pictured with lash inserts" etc .... If I was a marketing manager for Bourjois I would do a big ad and plaster across it "NOT filmed with lash inserts"
