An 8 year old child in America managed to kill himself.
What happened? The child was at a gun show and a stall holder gave a loaded Uzi sub-machine gun to him.
The child managed to shoot himself in the head.

For fraks sake, when will people kop themselves on!:mad::mad:

This is NOT an anti-American post - JUST an anti-stupid action post

    Sad, just sad...

If someone gave my daughter or son a loaded weapon of any kind, I'd personally kill the person handing it over to them!

    Only in America.

Sad thing is that no one may be charged over the matter,
"Massachusetts law allows a child to fire a gun with parental consent, so long as there's an active permit for the gun and a licensed firearm instructor is supervising. It is unclear whether the gun had a permit or whether the instructor was licensed, but Nunez said Christopher's father was nearby"

I heard Barack Obama was there and ordered the stall owner to give the child a gun and personnally checked to make sure it was loaded first.*

    *Dramatization, may not have happened.

Surely you'd either be right there to see your child get handed a gun, or you'd have let your child wander unaccompanied around a gun show. Either case, not just the eager gun salesman's fault.

I have a four year old child (1 of 3).
If in four years a person gives my child a loaded lethal weapon, I would gladly do jail time for punishing their stupid, crass and unjustifable actions.

I'm going to bed shortly but before I do, I will look in on them to see that they are ok.
The thoughts of someone handing them an Uzi just makes me down-right mad!

May the poor child that passed away rest in peace.

Gun Laws in the state allowed for children to use firearms with parental consent. More than likely, the gun vendor will walk away clean.

Parents are as much to blame as the gun vendor in this case IMHO.

It was lucky it was only himself he shot to be honest. There could have easily been a lot more people killed/injured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,010 ✭✭✭Dr_Teeth

Looks like hardly anyone actually read the article. The shooting happened at a gun range, the child wasn't handed a loaded gun in the middle of a crowded show. Guns are never loaded at gun shows.

Looks like they were at a range, the kid wanted to try an Uzi on full-auto, the dad was probably like "Sure he can handle it no problem", range officer loads it and hands it over, kid can't control the recoil and shoots himself. :(

WTF? He didn't rape the child, and while it was obviously a dumb thing to do, the parents were there and the guy didn't shoot the child. You're not well.

I saw a youtube video once where a fellow was shooting in the air at a wedding with a pistol (hey its the tradition in some countries) he put the pistol down on the table and his child (about 4) picked it up and started messing with it when the dad was looking at something else. He ended up shooting his dad. It was probably the most sickening thing I have ever seen.
Kids should not be allowed near guns. Neither should adults for that matter. BAN THE SHOOTING FORUM! *waves placard*

What kind of American civilian needs a sub-machine gun? Machine guns are not typically used for hunting, but rather were designed to kill people. What does this say about them?

If you were waving a gun you'd get it banned so much quicker.

Having fired an Uzi at a gun range in Las Vegas I know there is no way an eight year old could handle the recoil from one of these. I hardly could (well the instructor warned us so I fired low, cue 30 rounds in the nuts for the target :D).

The parent and instructor should both be charged in this situation.

Maybe they are a crap aim with a proper rifle. If you fire 30 rounds in the general direction of Bambi then you have Venison steak (with added lead!) ;)

WTF? He didn't rape the child, and while it was obviously a dumb thing to do, the parents were there and the guy didn't shoot the child. You're not well.

The nearest parent was far away enough from the child (probably dad's interest was glued to another weapon gleefully).
Yes, it was beyond a dumb thing to do.
The guy didn't shoot the child - no one said he did - but by giving the LOADED Uzi to a child he is just as guilty as putting the gun to the child's head.

If someone handed your child a hand grenade would you consider the "giver" totally innocent? A live weapon is still a weapon no mater what form it takes!

There is an old saying that goes '' never point a loaded gun at somebody unless your going to use it '' ...including yourself .

Pity the poor kid never aimed it at the guy who gave it to him ;)

What is far enough away?? if he was standing right beside the child he could've deflected the bullets or something? You said it was unjustifiable for a guy to give a child who went ot the gun range with his parents a gun, even though that's what the kid was there for. As someone pointed out earlier did you read the article?

    Well, the article stated...
...Christopher Bizilj was testing a 9 mm Micro Uzi at the Westfield Sportsman's Club in Westfield, Mass., as part of the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo, when he shot himself Sunday.

I take it from the article: (1) The child was in a building that had a gun range (2) there was an show that was displaying guns.

If the father was closer (knowing what he surely must know running a hospital) he might have been able to help by at least co-holding the weapon. As it was, the child was holding it on his own and the recoil aided the accident.

I'm sure we both feel the safe way. It was a poor lack of judgement by at least two adults there. The price of that poor judgement being paid by the child.

Its just a sad incident that could have been easily avoided - but then again some people never learn - so what do you do? Take the weapons away so that those that are never perfect, have less interaction with these objects that at the end of the day - are designed to kill.
As for letting kids have them, my lord, thats just crazy!
