Gerry Ryan is hosting the late late show this week for pat kenny as he has taken time out due to the death of his mother.

It will be interesting. Ryan has been pretty rubbish at TV, although Ryan Confidential has been quite good. Remember the disaster that was Secrets?

    Ryantown was much, much worse.

Yes, should be very interesting. Only Gaybo, Frank Hall and Kenny have ever been hosts, so this will certainly up the figures, giving the show added interest.

Weather it will be a good show or not, is anybodys guess!

Roseanne Barr, wee Daniel from Kincasslagh, Tommy Tiernan and Tony Curtis are the expected guests this week.

He'll find it hard to interview people without stuffing his fat face. Will they get him a take out?

Why not Joe Duffy or Eamon Dunphy?

    Because he's an insufferable ass.

Do you not remember the car crash that was his short lived chat show on TV3 ?

It's a strange choice to have Gerry in.

Could it be that they didn't want to give any hint of a possible successor to Pat? Obviously no one believes for a second that Ryan would take it over but if they had given the nod on this one-off occasion to, say, Miriam O'Callaghan it would be viewed by some as a coronation of sorts.

Tubs wouldn't have been happy with that I'd wager and he couldn't get the gig tomorrow night because of his own show.

    According to RTE

Guests confirmed for this Friday include Daniel O’Donnell and his wife Majella, in their first major shared interview, X Factor winner Leon Jackson and major international act Snow Patrol.

No Tommy Tiernan then? He would have eaten Gerry alive.

Ryan and Tosser Tiernan on the one show

Could be a night for giving the Aga a good cleaning or having that root canal treatment

Wonder will the Tosser be doing his usual manic shouting and prancing in a desperate attempt to be "funny".

Memo to the Tosser: Look at the style of Ronnie Corbett / Late great Tommy Cooper ...no shouting or prancing there - just good comedy script delivered with perfect timing...go learn navan man..oh and bring that other unfunny Navan tosser Hectorr with you.

    capece ??

What about Bill Herlihy - he's be 'LOIVE' on RTE

Ryan will disgust the conservative Late Late show base....but he might appeal to their conservative sexual frustration.

Tony Curtis is on Jonathon Ross show as is Daniel Craig and Grace Jones. I know which will be the livelier experience.

I hope for his sake that Roseanne Barr is not a guest! I heard a radio interview that Dermot O'Leary did with her a couple of weeks ago and she was dreadful! All she could talk about was her blawwwwwwg (blog) that she 'works' on all day and her support for the Green Party in the US. After the interview, O'Leary commented that it was one of the worst ever interviews he had done with a guest who simply didn't want to talk to him.

Mind you, it could be car crash stuff...

RTE probably chose Ryan because he reckons that he should earn as much €€€€€€€€ as Kenny.
This is probably his interview for a pay raise .

Couldn't Gay Byrne come back and show them how it's really done? Hasn't been the same without the great Gaybo.

Get Tommy Tiernan to host it, let alone be a guest.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    +1

And he could bring back "there's one for everyone in the audience" and "roll it there Collette".

He's more personality than the cardboard cut-out but he's an utter gob****e. Can't stand Gerry Ryan.

That said, I don't remember the last time I watched the Late Late.

They could have set it as a challenge for the muppets in the Apprentice. Now that would be car crash tv.

Oh, I think he just might be. Tommy Tiernan will doubtless get freer reign than usual to say dreadfully bold things about priests although if he wanted to be really as controversial as he thinks he is he would say a few bold things about Muslims and travellers. Hopefully there will be a nice brazen English young one on so we can watch Gerry desperately trying to avoid staring at her bazonkers. And a celebrity chef to cook up a nice feed which Gerry can tuck into during the show. What fun.

No. Gaybo's last show was the highest accolade a presenter could ever hope for. It would only ruin the memories of that night, almost 10 years ago

Is Gerry gonna have a big plate of food in front of him when he's interviewing the guests? Isn't that the way he normally conducts interviews?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 108 ✭✭CyrildoSquirrel

They're taking bets on who will present this. Gerry is second fave at odds of 5-1. Just behind Tubridy at 4-1.

Any odds on Podge and Rodge.

TYep. The odds on P&R are 250 - 1. Other contenders include:

Dara O Briain and Miriam O Callaghan (both 8-1)
    Grainne Seoige (10-1)
    Ray D'Arcy (12-1)
    Mark Cagney (16-1)
    Joe Duffy (18-1)
Dave Fanning, Marian Finucane and Patrick Kielty (all 25-1)
    Eamon Holmes (40-1)
    Eddie Hobbs (50-1)
    Gay Byrne (80-1)
Martin King, terry Wogan and Bertie Ahern (all 100-1) and
    Colin Farrell (500-1)

    There were a couple more.

Heard a rumour that Madeline McCann's parents were going to be on the show. Anyone know if there is any truth in this?

Tommy Tiernan confirmed on Ray D'Arcy that he will be on The Late Late this evening.. and said something about bringing cream pies to feed Gerry Ryan, basically insinuating he's fat!

Or that Tommy has taken up baking and wants to treat Gerry.

Yeah I suppose you're right.I just feel nostalgic for the old days when uncle Gaybo entertained the nation.Nobody has or ever will fill his shoes.A true Irish legend.
Good luck to Gerry.Interesting to see how he does. He's a pretty good interviewer so it should be good viewing.

I'm surprised he could fit his massive girth on screen.

To be fair, he looks like he lost a bit of weight.

I'd go back to Louis Copeland in the morning Gerry!

First impressions... audience were up for it... if I were Pat, I'd be concerned with the welcome.

Tony Curtis looked wasted,Gerry handled him well to be fair.

Has the lead singer of Snow Patrol got Parkinsons or something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

He's a far better interviewer than Pat. He handled doddery Curtis very well. Imagine how Pat would have dealt with it? Especially if asked what he was like at 17. He cannot deal with anything thats unscripted.

Note to Gerry...Snow Patrol are mediocre
