A decent digital set-up is gonna cost you more or less the same price as a good deal on a second hand pair of decks. If you get lucky you could pick up a pair of cheaper Pioneers for €500/600, which is what you're gonna spend on DJ software/controller/soundcard anyway.

    Hi Lads.

I am using Virtual dj6 for the last 18 months ( Cracked ).

I had an old mixer and cd player combi, and using VDJ as just a music machine, as I only play videos, Karaoeke, and mp3's at gigs,no mixing required.

The sound was ok and the mic was sounding ok As I was not using a sound card .

Now I have sold the "Old" mixer and since then have tried all types of soundcards including dj io from Numark.

The sound is absolutely crap, I have tried everything , its thinny with not much change in sound using the mixer I currently have. Changing bass mid etc makes no real difference. I dont get no thump out of my pv speakers and 1000 watt amp.

The cpu is very high about 70% I use a new 3 gig toshiba.

I am cuurently using no sound card except the internal one from the toshoba, and the sound is still crap, really really crap.

I hesitated to post here as I should be all sorted by now, but I am just using the headphone out on the pc. no sound card and 3 gig, which should give a decent sound output but NO:mad:.

So yeah, I am freaked out and probably going to lose a gig or 2 because of the sound.

    Can anybody give a reply???

I tried all lateny settings etc.etc.

Sounds like you're running a line out into the wrong kind of input. You cannot use a mic or phono jack from a laptop/external soundcard, it has to be a line in as used with a cd deck.

What mixer are you using? The master volume should be close to/at max on the laptop and controlled from the mixer.

Also, you'd do well to note that the first line of your post is agains the boards terms of service.

Put some mixes up so people can hear how good(or bad) you are, although i seem to recall you like trance so you might get a better response on a dedicated trance forum but sure throw them up here too

Worry about the age factor after people see you have the skill factor.
dont use your age as a selling point(hey im only 13).
get people liking your mixes first then worry about the age thing later

I wouldn't worry about the age thing. If you do get a gig in a club, the promoter running the night will sort you out, so I couldn't imagine you having hassle getting in as a DJ. As Sean said, just make mixes and send them to people running nights.

Forgive me if I sound not all there, but I will do my best to describe my problem as best I can.

I just pick up a Behringer 3000 off Adverts with Tracktor.
Problem is I cannot get it to work on my Laptop, I have uploaded the softward no problem but I cannot use the external mixer NO joy at all.

My brother on the other hand had no problems with his I mac - Just plugged in and away he went!

Im finding this very frustrating - I believe I have all the right settings in place, but it is still having none of it!

I'm not gonna take a hammer to it just yet!
    Any help would be great!

Strange request and have been Googling for ages but can't seem to find an answer. Does anyone know of a voice changer program that can run with Virtual DJ Pro 7?

This is a lazy post I know, and I'll search in a second, but I was just wondering if there was any good tutorials on ableton? My friend gave me his old copy after he upgraded. Bear in mind I have ZERO experience making or mixing tunes, I just love listening to them. :p

    Hi guys,

Just getting into Djing, have a version of Serato or Traktor to choose from(brother has both), what would ye recommend? I'm used to Virtual DJ Pro already.

Also which of these would ye recommend to get (if any):

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/numark_mixtrack_pro.htm

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/numark_mixtrack.htm

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/hercules_dj_console_mk4.htm

Look forward to hearing ye're suggestions!

IF your using traktor or serato the mixtrack(not mixtrack pro) is the only one already mapped to be used with traktor. The other 2 are mapped for virtual dj. If you are already used to virtual dj the mixtrack pro or hercules mk4 would be your best bet. Out of those 2 id recommend the mixtrack pro. If you are adament you want to use traktor then i would recommend this: http://www.thomann.de/ie/behringer_bcd3000.htm because it has a built in soundcard for headphone cueing while the mixtrack dosent so you would have to buy one seperately.

Thanks for quick response! It will be one of the mixtrack's I'll be going for!

Alright man, i think a few of the lads on here have the behringer at some stage so they should be able to sort you out, the hercules doesnt have a soundcard so if want a decent soundcard you could add another 100 beans to that, you could pick up something like this is you wanna go the digital route, this has an inbuilt soundcard so its all in one

Sound man, to be honest I'm not sure about the sort of gear I need! I was going to just get a pair of headphones and a mixer then use my laptop to just mess around for a while, the Behringer I posted about looks very professional but its in my price range, can't see if it has the built in sound card or not though!

Is the mixer you suggested good, like have you had experience with it yourself? I t would be handy alright though having soundcard included, I didn't even think of that, thanks for that!

Havnt got any experience of it, yeah soundcard is essential if your going digital, the quality of the product you get all depends on what you wanna spend

Same with everything ha! But you reckon that Behringer BCD 3000 is good? Any other advice on what sort of gear I should get to just start off and practise?

All depends on what route you wanna go down, vinyl, cds, or digital ? I started out on digital, dont get me wrong you can do some great stuff but if i could go back i'd probably start with vinyl and then integrate that into a dvs system

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,183 ✭✭✭UnknownSpecies

Yeah it's digital I'd like to do simply because I'm sure vinyl is very expensive! I'd like to be able to use vinyl alright but I think I'll start with digital because it's the most accessible for me. Why do you say you would like to have gone down that route anyway?

thats the beauty of digital :) ah theres something about vinyl that i just like, love seeing dj's play with it, the sound feels more real than mp3 etc. and i'd like to have a physical music collection again!

    Hi

I'm from France and I've been DJing for about 2 years. I'm in Dublin for College. I'm looking at trying to get a club gig here but I'm not really sure how to go about it... I've played in clubs in France but I knew a few managers so there was no hassle getting gigs...I'm in the UCD DJ soc as I thought this may help but has been a complete waste of time as I have never gotten an email from them (I have sent them some emails asking if they are having any meet ups..)

Can anyone recommend what is the right approach for getting a gig in Dublin ?

For example do I go to the club with my mixCD during the day or at night (opening ??) ?

I've got all my gear ( I use Ableton Live with a Numark Total Control + Novation Launchpad and a M-audio Fast Track Pro Soundcard)

I play a lot of different types of music (House/Electro/Dubstep..) and I can cater for a clubs needs (play a lot of chart stuff etc...)

    Thanks for the help

Basically, no. Get a better mixer and a Kaoss Pad 3 if you want.
