I was 16. So the first things I can remember doing was looking up guitar tabs and going into very random sites.

Using Doras to browse some Irish sites (3 shamrocks, etc for ratings :)). Checking my tinet.ie email address. Downloading MIDI files of my favourite songs, MP3 files would take too long to download. :/

I was never actually in possession of the internet, but I have had access to it.

Googled google and found out it didn't actually explode the whole world. I was disappointed to say the least. It could have at least destroyed somewhere like Wales or Lichtenstein, they aren't even real countries for fúcks sake.

It was '97. I remember downloading loads of demos for games I couldn't afford.

Knights & Merchants was the one I always remember.

Jesus, MIDI files, almost forgot about them, all Beverly Hills Cops and other trendy 80's and early 90's tunes! Most of the early times I remember using the internet was 90% trying to get and stay online...ah the long melodic dial in noises...suppose in context I shouldn't be so cranky with my laptop these days for taking those 15 seconds to load my desktop and connect to the wireless router!

I can't really remember much... it'll be 10 years November or December that I first used t'internet. Ahh... thems were the days, goin' to get a cup of tea while waiting on a page to load. :)

I played a few games online, Delta Force (1 & 2) was one of them... can't remember the others...

I opened up Mosaic and went looking for 'pictures; they downloaded line by line and VERY slowly. Not much fun on the internet at 9.6 kpbs.

I still know people who are worried about being charged more if they look at sites that don't end in .ie.....

I started off downloading music for free (which on a 45k dial up connection was extremely crap). Also I checked out a shyteload of guitar tabs, which seems to be a trend here!

Must of been about 10 years ago when i got access to the internet. i was only about 10 at the time and did'nt really have much interest in it. can't even remember what sites i looked at. i did'nt really start looking at the internet regularly til about 2 or 3 years ago.

now im on it every day.

Searching for short audio clips of the Simpsons and stuff like that. The phone cable we had wouldn't reach the computer so to connect you had to move the computer halfway across the room so if you were looking at porn and heard someone approaching you had to close the window, disconnect the wire and push the computer desk across the room in record time. ALMOST wasn't worth it.

I started using the Internet in 1992/1993. I was about 14 or 15 and I would go into Trinity's computer labs to play MUDS (sort of a text based World of Warcraft.)

I remember being stopped a few times and I would say "I'm first year BESS" which seemed to work...

Got the internet way back in the mid-90's. You had to browse with images off.

    28k modem.

Visited the Beastie Boys website. Downloaded William Shatner songs.

    Good times.

Not exactly sure. The first proper use I had of the internet was in 1999 playing Unreal Tournament online.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament

I actually don't think any other game has come close to that great feeling of getting up at 5am on Saturday and Sunday morning to play UT online on the sly, then coyly disconnect as the parents started to rise hours later.

It all came to and end the following month with astronomical phone bills, coincidentally followed by our computer mysteriously falling down a flight of stairs. A friend of mine managed to get his bill up to 400 Irish pounds - to this day, close to a decade later, he still isn't allowed to use the household computer when he's home.

It was one of the first online FPS games that required neither a cd key or the original CD to play online so there was about 20 of us using the same copy....ah, a more innocent time.

Porn? hell no, it'd show up on the phonebill!

Looked up info on Satanism for a book I was writing. Then the simpsons. Was in an internet cafe ca. 1996

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

spent days trying to figure out how to get the original C&C working online :(

had a friend the other side of town wanted to play against, we would ring each other to exchange IP, hang up plug in net, connect go into C&C try and connect to each other...fail. Disconnect ring each other again get new IP's repeat process ad naseum. You might see the flaw a 10 year old didnt at the time :D

Wasnt until my dad came home with Red Alert a couple of months later that I got westwood online and discovered the world of lag. (28.8 k modem).

Was just getting into the guitar so it was tabs for me. Also signed up to hotmail with an address that I cringe ever so slightly at now.

    Downloaded some "interesting" file.
And off i went to reinstall windows 98.
When back it was napster time.
Downlaoding a 4 mb song on dial up and then the horror... the person you were downloading from disconnected when you were on 98%

    Midi files
Tons and tons of crap midifiles.

MP3 hadn't been invented in those days. Even if they had, it was a 14.4k dial-up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,560 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

Saw it in a friends house. Typed in calender to see if it was true that you could look up anything on the internet. Then i typed in calendar.

Yeah i was young. Wierd how that memory sticks with me though.

Back in 1995 my hotmail address was osamabinladen@hotmail.com

Thankfully I stopped using that e-mail address in the late 90's!

(I can't remember why I picked that address - probably because I thought the boldness of it was funny.)
