try ncef, they are the main place really.

    also national training centre.

you usually need to get a fitness instructor qualification before a personal trainer one.

i'd look into this quickly, as i'm sure most courses will be starting soon.

Hey, aye is right, you should get a gym instructor course done first.
Im doing a 29 week course called "leisure centre instructor traineeship" in wexford.
I got it through fas, its a fetac level 6 course, im gonna go for my NASM cert after that then my others.

    Best of luck

Places like ISSA, ACSM, NASM and ACE all american companies offer them as home study courses. For the qualification to be of any use to you you'd need to have very good knowledge in the first place. They do work out quite cheap compared to doing say ITEC or NTC but your knowledge and teaching ability would want to already be very good otherwise you would be wasting your money.

As the above have said, you usually need a fitness/gym instruction cert/diploma before doing a personal trainer one. I think as well the course the OP mentioned was the NTC course as well (since thats 18 weeks and 2k). If you have a poke around you may be able to do part time/evening courses but the thing is, most of these are private courses are do cost the few bob (between 1-2k) even if its only for a few weekends. Basically how the courses usually work are:

    1) Public - Full Time - Cost Less
    or
    2) Private - Part Time or Evening - Cost more

From all the courses iv came across, if your looking for evening classes or part time courses they pretty much are all leaning more expensive private courses. Also, usually all Personal Training courses (and Gym instruction) are continuous learning, meaning that you may have to constantly learn new subjects, attend seminars and do other courses to earn credits which will re-new your cert.

Aye has mentioned some some of the courses you can do. I usually go onto Qualifax.ie if i need to check up on any courses that i may be interested in.
