    Hey,

I joined Jackie Skellys over a year ago, used it for the first 6 months then moved job and house so it wasn't handy for me any more. I handed in the ridiculous 2 months notice on the 1st of August now on the 1st of October I was charged again. I've been trying to get in touch with the admin department for the last week and a half - I've left loads messages to ring me back, 3 people have told me they would get your one to ring me, and nothing. I don't know what to do now. I want my money back and I want to make sure my membership is cancelled.

Any idea on the best way forward?

    cheers,
    bm

are you paying direct debit?if you are ring your bank and cancel that **** right nowif i'm ever having a problem with a service where i am paying out of my account the first thing i do if there is a problem is stop them getting my money, that will get there attention, then go in and ask to talk to the managerif you've had to sign a piece of paper or have an agreement in e-mail about you quiting then bring that with youhow did you notify them? who did you speak to and what happened?

Yeah, I was paying by direct debit. Good idea, I'll go up to the bank on monday and make sure it gets cancelled. I told them by actually calling into the place and filling out the form. There was one of the trainers behind the desk - it was lunch time so he was filling in or something - but I saw him put the form in a pile for the admin. Didn't hear anything else about it, so presumed all was well.

They are a bunch of crooks and would never recommend that gym to anyone.

They're a disaster, was in one of their gyms ages ago becasue it was handy to work. I left after giving the manager a right bollocking because the place was IMO filthy and more like a creche with the amount of kids/teens running around the place causing havoc than a gym.

Kept getting phone calls/texts/post for months after about special offers and rejoining, kept telling them to take me off their contact list and they kept ignoring me. Finally took it to the Data Protection Commissioner to get them to stop calling. They promised the DPC they'd be good, and guess what, 3 weeks ago another bloody phone call. Grr.

go to the trainer who you gave the file to, ask him/ her if he/she remembers you filling out the form to quit and if they say yes get their name, then go straight to the manager and say you quit and gave a form in, if he says that there is no record of you quiting and no form, tell him that you just talked to a trainer who you filled it out with and tell the manager the trainers name

if you go straight to the manager he might go back to the trainer and then the trainer will just deny it because it might be his mistake but if you go to the trainer first and just start up a friendly convo and get your info WHAMMY

no one suspected the butterfly!!! hehehe

Nice idea but unfortunately I don't have a clue what trainer it was - it was like over 3 and a half months ago! I don't want to go back out there either. I don't want them causing me any more inconvenience! But I might just have to out and kick up a fuss.

    you try ringing them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭boogie man

Yeah - they keep telling me I have to talk to the admin department, cuz they wouldn't know anything about it. I can't get the girl I'm meant to talk to, and she won't ring back. The manager was conveniently in the shower last time i rang swords!

If you've been overcharged ask the bank to reverse the payment also. They're totally on your side in issues like this. Whenever I cancel anything I pay by DD I also ring the bank and ask them to stop any future payments to that company. 9/10 final bills and cancellations are botched by clowns like Jackie Skelly and most telecom providers.

Yeah - another good idea, I'll ask them on monday about reversing the charge.

get down to the gym and raise hell, i can't stand lazy work that cost me money, get the manager and give them a serious piece of your mind, if you confront them they can't fob you off with being in the shower, unless you confront them in the shower
