Many of the Pros nowadays can be seen with I-pods during tournaments. Does anyone here try the same thing?

What kind of music do you listen to?

Does it help you concentrate? Improve your play? Or does the song you listen to influence your syle of play? ie Aggressive, Loose, Tight etc...

I don't normally listen to music but if I'm playing online I might sometimes put some music on if I'm feeling tilty. Anything from Ennio Morricone to QOTSA.

A tip for you , it takes months of practice, do it gradually as you may suffer mentally if you rush into it, but if you survive it, it really helps you with TILT control.
Get 1 Album of Boyzone and before you start playing listen to it gradually increasing the volume with each track, if you get past 'no matter what' without blood coming from your nose , you will never tilt agian . They currently have relased a version of Tom Baxters 'Better' but even I with my Ninja Boyzoneproof tilt control am not ready to take on that one

Nearly crashed the car into a petrol station in rage when I heard this on the radio. Sacrilege  (Though I sadly have to admit I didnt realise it wasnt Baxter till it was said afterwards:o).

I've always found that a little of Black Sabbath or Rush is exactly what I need to keep me focused without getting a bit hyper.

I find that music is essential to help you get through the monotony and repetiveness of multi-tabling. I'd usually just listen to a random assortment from my collection which could pretty much range from epic post-rock to parody lounge music. It's all good.

    Ultimate poker song:

FYI I don't listen to any music at the table, find I can't concentrate with it.

Post-rock would be something like Godspeed You Black Emperor! and the genre typically consists of lengthy, instrumental compositions with amazing climaxes.

Parody Lounge Music would be something like Richard Cheese (a.k.a Dick Cheese) who does jazz parody covers of popular rock and pop songs.

Nope, id never heard of him im afraid.

I tend to listen to my ipod most of the time when playing, the type of music on it varies dramatically. I don't think it matters what genre I'm listening to, the playlist I have is all songs I like of all different tempos and styles, but I find it relaxing simply because I'd prefer to listen to it rather than other random people.

For tournaments it helps me focus as it eliminates outside distractions & gives me something to do whilst not in a hand, for cash it stops me getting annoyed at the drunk $hite talkers at the table.

Just think of some of the legendary Westerns,
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly; Fistful of Dollars, Few Dollars More, etc

He composed the musical scores for them.

I had him on my ipod at the IPO last yr, didnt listen to too much of him then though. I prefer listening to stuff like Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath if I do put in the earphones tbh.

I played in the IPO last year, had the Smiths on , got a bad hand and nearly broke down in tears!

So be wary what you listen to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Porcupine Tree, Spiritualized, Enigma are usually what id listen to.

If im on tilt, i listen to Opeth. death metal ftw.

The sound of silence imo. As in no music rather than the Simon and Garfunkle song. Helps me concentrate.

The rare occasions I listen to music while playing I like having something that I am very familiar with. Means I don't have to concentrate on the music while playing and can just focus. Anything from classical to heavyish, but mostly try to listen to calmish stuff. If I'm playing a long session I'll sit out for a few minutes and listen to a song every hour or so, mainly Rage, The Clash and the likes.

All very well, but what happen if you have Mike ''the MOUTH'' Matasow, or Phil ''poker BRAT'' hellmuth sitting beside you.

    Not much silence then.........:eek::mad::eek::mad:.

I'm playing the IPO on friday, then going to see his show in belfast on saturday. Jes! Hopefully coming back to win the IPO on sunday...

In relation to the music, the most common thing i'd listen to while playing poker over the past year was the sound tracks to The Fountain and Pan's Labyrinth along with a live recording of the Spiritualized Acoustic Mainline show at the Union Chapel in London last year

lol I mostly play online. But when I am playing live I would never ever ever use an iPod. Your giving up access to too much information. Also it distracts you. FWIW I'm very very rarely bored at a poker table either so I don't need to.

Alive 97 is apparently good also,

Thinly veiled brag: I got to see the Alive 2007 show live (although it was in California and not paris)

Creative Zen - 4000 songs - random play ftw

I have a huge variety on it but i dont think it affects my play in any way. If i'm tilting or take a bad beat, i like to put on some dance and turn it up full whack and get lost in it while i calm down.

Its also handy for shutting out noise at the table. Talking doesnt bother me but i sat beside some bloke in the SE recently and he was chewing gum and i heard every fckin chew..Drove me crazy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,755 ✭✭✭tylerdurden94

Always have my iPod with me when im playing, lots of variety on it anything from AC/DC to Ministry of Sound to Ludacris to Kings of Leon and Bob Marley to take me off Super Monkey Tilt :)

As for headphones i just use the iPod ones i went out and bought a pair of noise canceling ones but the fcuking cord is like 10 foot long so annoying.

P.S just flicking through my music there, im sure we have some Eddie Vedder fans here you guys should defo check out the soundtrack from Into The Wild, absolutely awesome!
