Munster v Sale

Sale have looked good and bad this season, clattering Clermont away for a BP, yet getting clattered 28-6 away to LI.

Their gameplan is very territory orientated and they seem a bit one dimensional this year, but the run of results they have put together speaks for itself.

This may well be the "Miracle Match" for 2008/9 as we seek to undo the BP they achieved away to Clermont. Winning home and away to Sale really puts us in the driving seat.

Hopefully the weather in Stockport this weekend is fine, and not a carbon copy of the filthy last 2 matchdays in Limerick.

McGahan has brought alot to Munster this season, and I love the way we are playing. On a beautiful evening in the RDS it was great to watch, but we need a plan B, the weather in Cork and Limerick for the winter is going to be more of the same from the last 2 weeks, and we can't be throwing the ball around in that filth, we need to play the forward dominated territory game when the circumstances demand it.

2 Sale players cited from last week. Rumour that Tipoki is out injured.

Not sure when the eams are named but Tipoki will be missed, I suppose Warwick could go to FB and Earls in the centre or McGahan might just slot Murphy in as a direct replacement.

Hopefully Warwick will start at FB, he deserves to play. He was the only1 in the Montaban game putting them on the back foot, he has an excellant boot which will be handy against Sale who like to do a good bit of kicking. The only issue i have is his defensive ability in tackling and claiming the high ball in which he is really an unknown quantity.

I'd expect to see Earls at 13 if Tipoke is out.

You'd be right! Munster have done well in the Magners this year, but that competition is no yardstick to real form imo. Sale away is a tough one. Munster were poor last weekend and almost got turned over at home against a team of Heineken Cup novices. Sale won away with a BP against Clermont. This is a clear marker of their intentions this year. Should be a really good game, and at the moment i'm thinking a losing bonus point wouldn't be a bad result for us.

I think the main problem last week was their attitude going into the game. Everyone was giving off the idea that they'd be a push over, which they were not.
They'll be going to Sale with the right mentality and hopefully put in a propper show. I can't really call it either way yet, but i'm fairly sure this will be a very tight game.

Tight pitch, O Gara is going to kick the leather off it all day , a penalty could decide this -Munster can win.

I kinda thought Earls would move inside with Warwick FB
    Is this the actual team?

Delighted to see Earls at centre and good to see O'Sullivan and Warwick getting a start. Warwick showed a bit of speed and tactical kicking last week when he came on, hopefully he can create a bit of space on Sunday for the rest of the backs.

I'm deleighted to see Warwick finally getting a start for a HC game. It'll be nice to see Earls in his natural position against quality opposition too. Looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

Yeah. I'm very intrigued to see how Warwick and Earls get on in this game. Warwick put in some great kicks when he came on at 15 the last day. Its nice to have that option in FullBack.
Cant wait to see how Earls gets on. Very timely actually, with the November internationals coming up :D

More rubbish from Guscott this week.
Champions Munster travel to Sale. If this was old Munster and old Sale you'd say Munster win, but this is new Munster and new Sale.

Munster have had their best start in years and now they are old Munster because they didn't beat a French side well enough.

    And this as well.
Wasps travel to Leinster, who are chokers, although they are normally OK at this early stage of the competition.
Getting beat by good sides in the QFS or semis is not choking. Are all the Welsh teams chokers then?

    1. In terms of the Leauge yes in terms of the HC no they were out played by a 2nd string Mauntaban that refused to play at all.

    2.Dont listen to Guscott he's a muppet anyway :p

Crucial game for Munster. If Sale win and Munster get nothing out of the game it could spell the end as they may not be able to accumulate enough bonus point victories to finish as one of the best runners-up.Munster, though, have a habit of pulling out a big performance when they need it most so it would not be a huge surprise if they were to win tomorrow but it won't be easy.

Away matches are never easy, away to a team who have only conceded 4 tries this season (in all their competitions) is even more difficult.

Here's hoping Munster can do it, 3-0 will do me.

Whatever happens there's 20 points up for grabs after this weekend is resolved, and 16 if you go unbeaten. We've a long way to go yet.

Very very windy in stockport! Munsters kick off returns have been a bit lax nobody dealing with them so far. A lot of needle already and a lot of idiots in the crowd by the sounds of it when o gara was kicking

Great play from mafi there collecting the ball and offlading almost in one. Lineout is not great again.

    EDIT- Great Try!!

Clock is wrong , only 3 mins to half time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Not taking our chances though, always worrying when only 1 score ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,894 ✭✭✭dreamer_ire

Great run by McAlister but what a hit by Mafi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

That was some tackle by Mafi on Chabal!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭Erin Go Brath

Great hit my Mafi on Chabal there just before half time. :) Munster look well on top in general play although need to press home the advantage a bit better terms of scores. Look good though.
