Has anybody tried Motivaition.ie for a weight loss program.

I am thinking of signing up. It's fairly steep but if helps me then of course it is worth it.

I would be very interest to hear from anybody that has tried it.

The program is 20 weeks. 15 minutes/week after your first consultation. You basically eath healthy and they have info/cds (motivational tools .etc) and also bars/shakes that you take in addidition to your meals ..

Don’t usually advocate fad diets as usually its lifestyle changes are what’s required and not diets. But my auntie has had a lot of success with this, she started over a year ago and lost a lot of weight initially an I thought here we go again crash diet and back on in a month or so, seen here recently and not only is it still off but a lot more too.

Not sure if this is an isolated case or what but there you go ….

Hmm, spent the a good while looking over old threads there. A lot of people saying this is a waste of money and a fad .etc. Some others a little more positive, mainly about people they knew that did it mind.

I think I will go with this.

    Why?

1.What I want is that regular monitoring where you have to account to someone if you slip up. If I feel the food recommended is way to low I will increase slightly.

    2. I realize I need help with this. I often hear on forums like this just east less carbs or just burn more than you consume. To me that is almost like saying to an alcoholic just stop drinking. This is a problem an addiction.

2.I'm fully aware this is all me, I'm just getting a helping hand facilitating. Hopefully motivating too.

3.The fact that it costs 700 quit will lessen the chance of failing. 700 quid for a two stone loss(my goal) is cheap. But quiting after 2 weeks shelling out this cash is much less likely.

    4. While I realize that if I do loose the weight after 20 weeks, the fight is not over I would hope that the weight loss would give me the added motivation and feel good factor to keep going, I see this as being a quick kick start to my weight loss not the be all and end all solution.

That's it then, going to sign up tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes

No, it won't. It will just make you really mad that you wasted so much money if you fail.

If you have the motivation to do something then educate yourself on healthy eating and formulate a training plan. You don't need to pour 700€ down the drain.

Boards.ie/fitness forum is Motivation.ie for heaps of people. You can be one too.

Oh god, please please don't spend 700 euro on this kind of crap.

Let me put this to your straight... IF you do lose weight, the only thing that has helped you is YOU. You do it all on your own.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do it. That's why people find it hard, because it bloody is!

Seriously, you're just pissing away 700 euro.

So basically, because it costs more, you're more likely to use it?

With a primo attitude like that the pounds will be flying off in no time, or at least until your money runs out.

Look no change is easy but if you educate yourself about how to do it and take small steps you will find a much more fulfilling way of doing it than spending €700 to join what looks to me to have all the trappings of a cult.

Lads think your getting hung up on the cost here, you have both just re-iterated my point. I'm not a total idiot here, I'm not under the impression that they will do the work for me just help get momentum.

I am under no illusion that this is a company with the aim of turning a profit. But I'm not getting personal about this particular point, if they make money so what, if I loose the weight that is all that matters.

The goal here is to use this as a kick start and then try and get these good habits and consistency into my eating/fitness in order to make it sustainable

And why exactly can't you do this on your own?

If you want to put your money to good use, hire a top class personal trainer or something for a month.

with all due respect I'm not just trying this for the first time in my life here, if I could just do it on my own I probably wouldn't be overweight in the first place.

The fact that I have to weight in every month, I know someone is going to be testing, the fact that I don't want to be seen to fail in front of someone else, I know it is probably hard to understand, this is clearly from a physiological point of view

I am not saying that in now way would I have a chance doing this with out a program, but I think it will defiantly aid ............ **** it having second thoughts here, just read what I wrote, I sound like a tosser

Not hard to understand at all.
    But save the money.

Start a fitness log here. You can add pics if you want and people will give pointers as you on your goals. Of course, don't add pics if you don't want to, but you mentioned accounatibility.
And if you want accountability then just set a goal and post it. And if you fail, well all the regulars here and hundreds of strangers will see this.
That's a lot of pressure for sure! Oh, and it's free and you get advice and help at the same time :)

I know as well as anyone what its like, i've been battling my weight for years and i still haven't managed to keep it off. I'm not going to spend 700 euro on this though, you know why? Because it's stupid. It's for people who get their nutrition tips from 'Heat' magazine tbh.

If you 'need' a place to go once a week or month or whatever, join a sports club, commit to it, hire a trainer for 1 hour a week, do some marshall arts, buy a bike.

Really think about this, it's 700 euro for nothing.

If you need motivation, read these boards, go over to bodybuilding.com and read the 'loosing fat' forum, there are loads of transformations that are inspirational.

With all due respect, you're taking the lazy option.......quite possibly again. Get some knowledge about exercise in this forum and also check out the nutrition forum. Like everything in life, there is no shortcut. To get to where you want to be is going to be hard work. Read the stickies at the top of the forum, they're free. Save that 700 sheckles for some the new clothes you'll need when you lose the weight.

Food is there to fuel your body, if you put the wrong fuel in it, it won't operate for as long as required. It's the same as when you fuel too much, it's going to turn to fat unless you burn it off. Fruit and vegetables are an important part of a diet but quantity needs to kept in line with all foods, even the good ones.

Start off with basic meals. Chicken/Turkey/Beef (lean meat) with a small amount of mixed vegetables/pasta/rice (wholemeal pasta/rice). Try and leave the sauces aside for the moment. Yes it's bland but it's going to help you get where you want to be. When you get going, you can pick up other bits of information from people on here or other sites. Don't give into such a scam like the one above.

Knowledge is where it's at, educate yourself to help yourself.

Aswell as knowledge you need self disipline...and to have disipline, you have to have confidence in yourself.

To me, that is the ultimate hurdle. Losing weight will come naturally when you take control of you!

wow didn't realise it was that kind of money !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,094 ✭✭✭✭javaboy

Give the 700 euro to a trusted friend. Tell them that they are not to give it back to you unless you lose the 2 stone you want to shift.
That way you'll not only have the same fear of wasting your 700 euro that you'll have with motivation.ie but also the incentive of 'earning' 700 euro to be spent on something more rewarding for you. If you don't make your target weight within some reasonable time limit, your friend gets the money. :D

It's not like motivation.ie have any magic formulas or secret diet/exercise tips. Just use all the information and resources freely available on the internet and elsewhere and use the 700 euro as a motivation.

Have you considered giving Weightwatchers a shot first? It's €10 a week and the monitoring is weekly so it's even more incentive to eat properly and exercise. If you are a man, there are plenty of men-only classes available now. What I like about WW is that you learn about food nutrition and portion size while using their system (if you stay and listen to the talk instead of just getting weighed).

At the end of the day, what another poster said is true: you have to put the work in yourself or you won't get anywhere. But I (from personal experience of losing 3st) believe that at least half the battle is really wanting to do lose it; it helps keep you focussed. Best of luck with whatever you try!

My wife tried Motivation last year. Every Thursday night for 3 months or so we drove 40 miles to Newbridge to be weighed and talked to for 10 mins. From the start I was not happy because after spending the initial 700 euro we spent 20-40 each visit on recommended motivation bars, Books and shakes. While the books were by choice the bars and shakes were part of the diet we were not told about beforehand. Stay away and do it yourself I say. In the end she lost damn all weight.

Stay away from anything that involves buying books, bars or shakes as part of the ‘program’. Does that alone not raise doubts in your mind? €700 is a years gym membership. You will get into fantastic shape in that time and have access to a proper facility. There are lots of resources out there on motivation.

howya all, decided not to do this in the end, largely to what I have read here, I actually signed up but left my wallet in the car so I was to ring back to pay the deposit.

Had a good start this week, got 5 sessions in, w/e was Ok, back training today, think I might set up a log here and see how it goes, cheers all ..
