    Hi,

Just wondering if it is worthwhile trying to get a few quid off joining a gym? Especially considering the current economic situation, with everyone tightening their belts financially...

    Cheers.

Worth a try, my mate asks for discounts on everything, even on the bus and in takeaways, cheeky beggar gets loads off too, I just don't have the balls to try.

Especially in gyms which have these offers for 2-3 people joining up, they obviously could charge a single person the same rate, certainly worth trying.

Any gym I've been a member of I've been able to get them to waive the joining fee, never tried the monthly though

They never quote all their packages. There's always a cheaper one than what they first say.

Get a fake student card ;)

You should be able to get the joining fee waived.
They'll tell you it's x amount but this once in a life time, special, mega promotion is on and it'll be a fraction of this but its ends in the next 30 seconds!! Over the top but you've similar pitches in gyms.

Haggle hard and do your best to get the joining fee waived. This is mighn't be always possible like in January when they are signing up loads.
But try anyway and even if you fail, you'll have practiced your haggling skills.
