College and weight loss

I'm not sure if i'm posting in the right place, but here it goes.
I started college in September and I have lost a lot of weight.
I was kind of skinny to begin with, but now my trousers feel really loose around the waist.
    I'm 6'1 and I now weigh 65 kg.
Did anyone else have this problem when they first started college? Or is it just me?
I'm currently doing Karate, but maybe the cardio is causing me to lose too much weight.
    Does anyone have any advice?

If the trainning is anything as intence as boxing thats your weight loss reason.

What does your diet look like?

You need to eat lots and lots of food to gain weight but eat the right foods and at the right time.

How much weight are you wanting to put on?

I try to eat 3 meals a day; Wheatabix, toast and juice for breakfast.
For dinner I try to eat 3 types of vegetables and some meat.
For supper I usually cook pasta-like foods or toast beans and sausages.

I'd kind of like to be 75-80 kg

    Eat 5-6 meals per day.

You need to eat 1.5g of protein per lb of body weight

Eat stuff like pasta, potatoes, oatmeal, rice for carbs, for protein eat eggs, fish, chicken, steak.

You need to eat bout 3500 calories per day, divide that by 5-6 (meals) and thats how many calories you need per meal.

This is the amount of carbs/protein/fats you need in each meal too, 50%/30%/20%-carbs/protein/fats.

Its prolly not going to be easy to eat all this round collage but it has to be donr to the best of your abilitys.

    Yeah, that'll be fairly hard,
I had 7 hours of lectures last Thursday :(

Man just eat and eat. Drink loadsa milk. I've been doing that for the last 4 weeks of college and I'm freaking getting heavy as **** without the waist getting larger.

    Really!? lots of milk.
    How many litres a day?
I really want my jeans and stuff to fit properly again.
    + I hate looking skinny.

At your height and weight I think you're a good bit underweight. If you want to put on an extra 10-15 kilos you can do it the easy way which is just absolutely gorge on ****e non-stop everyday or you can look to gradually increase weight over 8 months or so. There's plenty of advice on here in threads already. Main points I'd give for weight gain would be to

    • Drink a pint of milk in between main meals
    • Add in handfuls of nuts with this
    • For breakfast think eggs and porridge
    • Lunch can be 2chicken fillets on thick bread with cheese and other fillings, some fruit and a yoghurt
    • Dinner just eat what you normally do
Now there's more complex ways of doing this but by sticking to something similar you should notice yourself putting on the lbs in no time.

Dont worry bout milk, eat whole foods to get you calories n sh!t.
If you can get your food for sum reason then drink a weight gainer.

just reading thread, it is more than likely the weight loss is being in college for first time and doing a lot of cardio work, keep eating well and healthily.
They are specific protein drinks/supplements that are specifically designed to support you to retain weight, which may help too. my husband is like you, if he does regular cardio/weights for a while, the weight falls of him and he looks awful, he uses the protein shake as a supplement.

would you also consider going to a doctor & make sure there is no other cause. it does seem like it is a very light weight for 6'1. better safe than sorry.

Thanks for your concern. I've been to the doctor already and he didn't comment on my weight.
I'm more concerned about my physical appearance caused by the weight loss + my jeans keep sliding down even with a belt.

Well what food have you added to the diet you posted above since then? Have you been drinking milk? If you are not lactose intolerant it would do no harm to add two liters a day to start and see what happens.

I've upped my milk intake to 1.5 litres a day.
I've also increased the amount I eat at meals and I've added
    More junk food like pizzas.

Try adding another liter, 3-4 eggs, 2 burgers from the butchers per day if you can manage it. It may also be that your body is still adapting to the new sport and will level out in a few weeks and stop losing weight.

Recommending a "weight gainer" over milk for a guy who just trains at karate. Man that is twisted.

I take it from your posting history you're a bodybuilder?

I'm not really looking to bodybuild or any of that. I just want to get to normal weight, to look stronger and not malnourished etc.

The question was for Nowler. I was just wondering why bodybuilders are so against milk. Probably because it contains fats but for someone looking to add to their frame these fats are advantageous. Every few weeks a new bodybuilder joins this forum and they all slag off milk.

I really can't recommend milk highly enough, keep drinking it down, it's a meal in a glass.

Thanks for the advice, I'll load up on milk for the month and see if it makes any difference.
I let you all know how I get on.

What are you eating each day? Can you give an example of a typical days' eating?

    Drakmond,

Up until about 6-7 weeks ago I was just under 10.5 stone and I am 6ft one inch in height. I am now 11 stone. How I gained the weight was to go to the gym and lift big focussing on the big compound exercises i.e squats, deadlifts and bench press but also doing a lot of dips, chins and militray presses and barbell rows. I also upped my calorie intake at the same time by drinking more milk, eating more cheese and nuts especially walnuts and having much larger portions for dinner. Prior to the weight gain I did a lot of cardio training i.e running, cycling and swimming and took part in many enduarnce races i.e traithlon etc but I felt very tired and sluggish all the time due to what I felt was being underweight and possibly overtraining. I had a huge apetite at the time but still burned it off (calories) training. I am still on a bulk and I hope to get to around 12.5 stone of as leanest muscle as possible. Anyway my advice would be (and this is what others would say on this forum) is to eat big (twice what you normally eat), lift big and reduce the cardio.

Nice motivational speech. :) I appreciate it.

Another piece of advice I received Drakmond, is that everytime you take a dump eat something after to make up for the lost food.;). Thats how seroius you need to take the nutrition part on a bulk.
