The kidnap list

Alarmingly I've been thinking more and more about basic Zombie survival. I've already got four worthy buildings that would make great places to hold up during the war. A local factory that manufactures both metal and timber products so I can make plenty of weapons and do repairs. The Bank is an obvious one, The local supermarket only has two enterence but there glass and need securing. Plus one other building that's a shop. It's not ideal but may be necessary. I also have my eye on a few JCBs as I reckon they'll make short work of large groups of Z.

The problem then was, how long will this Zombie war last? It could be a year or so and no man is an island, it takes a community to do anything more than survive. What if someone gets injured? I need skilled people and soldiers to keep the community secure. With my weapons shop and a few strong men I would also go out and engage any Z to prevent build up around my buildings. I'm hoping there won't be hordes of Zombies due to the make up of Rural Ireland.

To this end I have a kidnap list. Why kidnap? I hear you say. Well they may not fully understand the risks or intend to flee, or have their own plans, this would not do. I don't know how big or small the group would be.

A doctor will be essential but I also get the odd back problem so I might as well kidnap a physio as well.
A farmer or two would come in handy.
    Skilled carpenter and welder/mechanic

What other essential people would be required?

You might call it the "Strangeglove" list, as Dr. Strangeglove had a list of necessary people needed to repopulate the earth after the apocalypse. OK, a thinned down version of that. Personally, I would also add an engineer of some nature - for building and designing of machines that could be useful. Some otherwise non useful folk for general dogsbody work. Let's call them labourers. A hierarchy is bound to assert itself after a given period of time. At which point a leader will emerge. The labourers might then (but not definitely) be re-classed as indentured slaves.

Not when they realize what's really happening. It depends how immediate the danger is I suppose, but one way or another if the war breaks out their coming with me.

Engineers are already on board the factory I was on about has all these skilled laborers. I haven't really thought about the after math just surviving. I think a community would also be better at dealing with other non Zombie threats.

At this stage I've put so much consideration into the plan I'd be fairly pissed off if the Zombie panic doesn't happen in my lifetime.

You do know that suicide will be the greatest hindrance of to a kidnapped group and you would probably get killed in your sleep by the hostages or one would go insane and break down the barriers.

I doubt you would need a kidnap list because as soon as people figured out what was going on Id say they would be well up for helping you out if they stay alive because of it.

    a good few labourers,
electronics/electricity expert [for powering up places from a portable generator, using radios
    chemicals expert [making IED's]
Engineers, probably a couple of them, for building barricades, traps, weapons, repairing vehicles
someone who knows where useful stuff is [probably a taxi driver lol]

    thats about it, i think.

Women are basically the cows of humans too. I doubt there'll be many dairy herds around and I do like a bit of milk on my cereal.

Actually thinking about it and seeming as your so bet into the idea of a kidnap list.
A pilot would be quite useful for ya know getting the hell out of the country or flying to an uninfected part of the world

Are you advertising yourself as a local hot girl? I've a feeling the OP is probably better off finding someone who can multitask - a doctor/engineer with the biological capacity to give birth to human babies, and a friendly disposition. Not sure how high morale is among indentured camp followers, and this could add to the suicide problem. Just sayin'

haven't you seen flashdance? now she'd be a good kidnappee... weld barricades all day, and dance around the place and have buckets of water thrown on her all night.

    back on topic I suppose,

we'd only need one medic, in fairness, if someone broke a leg or cut themselves while scavenging. if you're bitten, there's no need for medical intervention. unless someone knows genetics and immunology, where they could possibly find a cure. so, we get into trinity early and hold the genetics team hostage? :D

more soldiers and diy enthusiasts, i think fully qualified engineers would be outraged if asked to build a barricade without a workshop :P
also, as in my last post, we need a taxi driver, someone who knows where everything is, like a living version of the yellow pages :pac:

What about bringing along the yellow pages as well? Could be used as an anti-z weapon as last resort:D

Kidnap won't work at the very start but it may be necessary a few months after Z day. First off you need a loyal tribe. When you have built up and are strong , you can raid other tribes and kidnap their best people.

The world after Zed day wil see only small groups surviving, bigger commuties will no longer exist as it increased population will increase the chances of infection.

Eventually the tribe leaders will unite under one banner and civilaztion will continue.

Great. So now not only do I have to survive the Zombie horde, I have to make sure I also don't get kidnapped by some psycho who is only looking out to save his own neck. Brilliant.

I for one do not fear Zeds that much,(hopefully they are shammies) humans are different though. The collaspe of society will bring with it a huge body count of human v human killing.

Once the initial shock of Zed day has passed, humans will turn on each other for survival, I would foresee countless raids for supplies against other human groups. It will get real ugly.

Get in a strong group and fight for your survival.

we really are going to have to train properly, thats why i think trinity is so perfect, it is basically a sustainable community within secure walls, and we have space to run and build up endurance while also having a gym and labs

Other people will be a problem for us fortress builders. I imagine the people most likely to survive z-day in the cities would be the gun toting scumbags from the likes of Dublin and limerick that are shooting people now, they'll have no problems getting their hands on weapons and doing whatever it takes to survive. I reckon they'll have the making of an army in no time and will be sending out scavenging parties to raid towns.

Towns that stick together and use their supermarkets as bait for them will have a good chance of survival, plus every time you take one of them out you get their weapons.

I'm a good bit off the beaten track here though and have the likes of Athlone and Galway city in between me and them.

The last place I want to be come Z day is in an urban area, a walled country manor/castle etc down a long passage off the road would be ideal, you may get the random zed or raider but nothing a small group of defenders couldn't handle. Staying in the biggest urban area in the coutry is a certain death sentence.

The new (world order) goverment would need people to run it. Even a small community would need a certain amount of law and order. there would be disputes that need to be settled in a fair and just way.

Cue you. anyhows we can teach you to fire a gun :p
