Philips 321 Skype phone question

    Hi
I am moving into an apartment that will have ntl 3mb broadband and was wondering will a Philips 321 Skype phone or a Belkin Wi-Fi Phonework for SkypeIn/SkypeOut if I connect it to the router, because the apartment has no landline. If it wont, do you know a phone(cheap) that will work with a standard NTL router?
We rarely/never use the phone anyway, but I don't want my wife's father having to call our mobiles, when he calls her from Japan.
Also a more general question. Do the people in NTL know what their talking about?:D I rang to check what's available in the apartment, and the girl said digital tv and broadband, but no phone. Surely if BB is available, phone is too:confused:

    Appreciate any help
    Paul

first thing is, by router i'm guessing you mean modem. unfortunately NTL modems have only one ethernet port so you would need to get a separate router. In that case, both the RTX 3088 phone would work or the netgear one as they don't need a PC and could be plugged in to the router directly, or plug the phillips phone you mentioned in to the PC which would have to be on. If you get a separate router, you could get a wifi one and then the belkin would work for you.

What I would suggest is get a wireless router and - a mobile that has wifi - such as N95, e65 etc. running fring - Rather than having a load of bits and pieces around

Thats the main setup that I use - which will give you skype in/out. It will also allow you to experiment with voip providers - which you might find might offer you a better alternative than skype.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to be paying an extra once off e49 to NTL to go wireless. Hopefully that has two ethernet ports. Anyone know?
If I get the NTL wireless router, will Richard's option work for me, or even the belkin phone? I don't mind what provider(Skype, etc) I use as long as the father inlaw can ring us without having to ring our mobile.
At least I know now that I don't need a landline to get a skype phone, which was my worry.

Normally NTL supply a decent Netgear wireless router. You'll get 4 ethernet ports and wireless with it so you'll have all the options you could need.
