Wiring Help

    Hey,

We've just bought a new house which is currently being built. The developer
has suggested that we will be able to ask the service guys to do additional
things for us as long as they are not too far out. One of the things we are
looking at is wiring the house for sound, ideally having different zones.
Initially we just want to get the wiring in and to the various rooms, and
can decide on a system later.

Can someone recommend what we should be running through the house? Most of
the articles I read suggest using Cat5e and 14 gauge speaker cable.
Considering this is the perfect opportunity, without the need to knock
parts of the wall out, should we consider running any other cables around
    the house?

Also, can anyone recommend where to get these cables at reasonable prices,
we'd obviously need a lot of it to run across the house.

I'm sure theres similar posts already but a quick search didn't produce anything productive?

    Thanks,

    Dec

    Try here ,

I recently used them to kit out my house with behind the wall audio cable and audio sockets... they stock everything you need.

Be warned though , while the individual parts are not that expensive , the bill mounts up pretty fast.

Your going to have to decide where in the house the sound is coming from , for example are you going to have a multi zone amp in the living room , or for Cat 5 sources , where is the distribution point going to be. Once you have that sorted , you can make a wiring plan.

For Audio , feed stereo pairs into each room from the place the amp or source is going to be , for cat 5 it depends what your going to use it for , for computer content you would run it in an ethernet configuration , for exotic uses of cat 5 like carrying HDMI content or audio , its a little different. Your installer will need to be familiar with Cat 5 usage to do the job properly.
