oh dear christ, when will they pull the life-support plug on this show.

it's almost getting embarassing to say i like the simpsons now.

I thought last weeks episode with the St. Patrick's Day Parade and the Orange Order march clashing was actually pretty damn funny.

This weeks episode was terrible though.

Actor Kenneth Branagh has agreed to voice a role in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.

The British star will play an Irish publican when Homer and Grandpa visit a pub in which Grandpa claims he spent the best night of his life.

Homer and Grandpa fly over to Ireland in order to buy the establishment, but find that it isn't easy due to the smoking ban.

But it gets worse...Glen Hansard and yer wan are going to be in it. End now, please.

Oh for feck's sake. Trying to do a better job than Family Guy's effort are they?

Time to put this show out to pasture. Let's see what can we expect...leprechauns, shamrocks, 'kiss me I'm Irish shirts' etc.

They might as well set it in Carroll's gift shop.

I agree, it's getting cringe-worthy now. The writers have lost the plot, and Marge is so annoying (like more so than ever before) it's unbearable.

And this Irish episode...they'll throw in a few ''top o' the mornin', boyos'' and think it's feckin' hilarious...

FFS. Ok...come on, wheel out those tired old stereotypes and put them back when your finished, as another group of brain-dead screenwriters need them.

I knew it was doomed when the new producer who took over a few years ago said that "Lisa is my favourite member of the cast...she brings a sense of moral voice to the show..."

Cant wait for this. Gonna be great. How many countries have the Simpsons visited for an episode? Brazil, Australia, UK, Italy, Canada?

Have to agree can't see this being anything more than the usual Irish shíte they stick in it.

Sideshow Bob was a mayor of a village in Tuscanny i think. He had a family. Vendetta Vendetta was his sons catchphrase.

I think it will be good.

It's called The Italian Bob. The only memorable thing from it was their pisstake of Family Guy (plagiarismo) and American Dad! (plagiarismo di plagiarismo).

The ads for the Paddy's Day episode are already appearing on Sky. Everything's green and there a lot of diddle diddle music.

RTÉ News showed clips from this forthcoming episode and what I saw was awful.
    Cabbage from a tap.
Oh hilarious. Can't wait to tune in for this tonight

I cant believe the first ever Simpsons premier outside USA (Irish Themed) is aired on solely on UK Satelite.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 335 ✭✭acontadino

i bet its cringey and why is it not on rte?

Wow...cant believe they did the "you stepped on the scales and it broke" joke. 8 year old children have been doing that for about 20 years.

    Astonishing.

moleman only lost five minutes of his life at the quik-e-mart, i lost 22 minutes watching that rubbish, unlike moleman though i wouldn't waste them if i got them back.

    Pretty rubbish...:(

Without even going into the generous use of stereotypes (which everyone knew would happen, no biggie) the thing that stood out most for me was how long the "fish out of water" joke went on. Had that been done in an earlier episode, say even 10 years ago, I'd have a suspicion it wouldn't have gone on anywhere near as long.

    bleh. pretty ****e.

I agree with the other posts, but it did highlight the decline of pub culture over the years. And an alternative recipe for Guinness:
    Bog water and chocolate syrup

That was dire, :( just seemed like a collection of the old Irish stereotypes from previous Simpsons, ie drinking, fighting, leprechans, bad Irish accents.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,089 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Well that was as bad as expected. The first half of it wasn't even relevant. Simpsons fails again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 51 ✭✭Ciks

I don't think it was that bad. I mean in terms of humour the simpsons has gone downhill but tonight's episode seemed to view Ireland fondly. If you look at the Aussie and Brazilian episodes - their portrayal of the people - I think we got off lightly. The stereotypes weren't as bad as in previous episodes.

How long were they supposed to be in the country though? Thought it was funny that Marge bart and lisa were in antrim one moment and in Dublin the next :)

classic! if only they'd made this episode around this episode around that time, it probably would have been hilarous.....
