Guitar Problem: Left ring finger gets strained

When playing the guitar for a while, my left ring finger starts to get sore. It just kinda feels strained in the upper-joint (joint nearest the nail).

Anyone else experience this?? Is there any kind of finger support that I can get that may help alleviate the problem??

    Thanks in advance :D

I wouldn't look into supports or any of that...not necessary, and possibly will do more harm than good.

I would guess it could be a couple of things:

-Just normal tiredness from playing too much or too strenuously, (or if you are a beginner it will take some months to develop strong fingers). We all get this, it just means you need to put the guitar down and take a break.

-Bad form. Or not warming up.

-Some kind of inherent wrist/finger problem, or tiredness caused by something else (bad typing etc). i.e. a medical problem

We can't give you medical advice here, so if you think it is something serious, go see a specialist. But I think it would also be worthwhile to book a lesson or two with an experienced teacher and get him to have a look at your posture/form and see if maybe you are straining your fingers/wrist with awkward positions etc.

I use t get this problem, use your thumb at the back of the fretboard to put pressure on the string instead of using you're actual finger.
Sounds weird, but give it a go.
