you may do so,but do you in speculation or in bias? but what do you think of the possiblity of successful athletes who maintain a vegan diet?

i think all athletes should maintain a sense of humour.
In answer to your question I think athletes in any power sport like the 100/200m would have a large protein/fat intake that would be better served by eating meat /fish or at least animal derived products like milk/cheese/whey/yogurt or eggs.
Im presuming vegan means no dairy/eggs .
So Im sure that you can supplement to make up for what you would be missing B12 etc. , but I am sure I remember reading that vegetable derived proteins soy/rice etc. are a lot less bioavailable than their animal counterparts likewise with a lot of the essential fatty acids. So while I am sure its possible to suceed on a vegan diet I would be of the opinion that it would be in spite of the diet.
    Just a personal opinion.

BTW Carl Lewis was not vegan before 91 and failed drug tests on 3 separate occassions for stimulants which may/may not have been used to mask steroid use.

A lot of athletes succeed in spite of their diet. Its plausible to say the same here (for ****s and giggles). There's certainly no reason to believe, or way of knowing, that his vegan diet made him better.

Usain bolt is faster. Therefore whatever he eats is better than whatever Carl Lewis eats.

    chicken nuggets apparently.

Not technically meat either so... :D:D

Anyway, just because Lewis did well on a vegan diet doesn't mean we should all be doing it. I mean c'mon, how many of the worlds elite sprinters AREN'T vegan????

Trying to use Lewis as an example of why a vegan diet is best is one of the most flawed thought processes I've ever come across.

Yup, it's a bit like eating and training like Arnold... how many people do you know who have bought his books and have done the exact same programme as him? I know of about 10

And there's the rumours Lewis was getting his protein from "other sources" if you get what I mean*

I agree with what he says at the end, about how you feel lighter and more energetic when you eat smaller meals (though that's not really a vegan-specific thing).

I haven't really noticed any major difference since going from a big-time meat eater to a vegan. I would agree though, and I think it's a fairly well accepted notion amongst most people, that eating alot of dairy products can make you a bit sluggish.

I think the point of this isn't to try say that being Vegan is better than eating meat, its more so to say that even though almost all athletes at that level eat meat that there is some advantages and it is actually possible to succeed being a vegan.
