Meet Daniel, my hubbies nephew, I took shots of him for his dad to send to an agency, the little fella loves being on stage like his uncle and is absolutely gorgeous. Would you hire him?

Rachel - I think he'd be great for the kinda stuff you see kids modeling (clothes primarily i'd guess and maybe particular product lines which were child friendly). So modeling today, chief executive of a world renowned spring water company tomorrow (No coal mine for our wee Chesney ;) )

    Nice pictures by the way.

Thanks Cat, I'm hoping to get a bit of practice with his facial expressions before he goes to see anyone. Although he is gorgeous and really gets into it he only gets into it in his rocker style, he still needs to learn about what is meant by tilt your head that way look up etc etc and happy, sad.

My little girl is the same age about a foot taller and the best model I could ever come across, problem is she will only pose with me behind the camera, ah well.

^ Unless you're just being sarcastic (which you could demonstrate by use of smilies) you are otherwise bordering on personal abuse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,852 ✭✭✭Hugh_C

Thirdy, I even get bored taking pictures of my own kids let alone looking at anyone else's nieces or nephews. Are you a lawyer or something?

    :p

It isn't personal abuse as it is someone having an opinion. However, there is no need to post if they dont like the content!!

They tried to get rid of me - so I'm on exchange at a US law school right now; small fish in big pond. :p

Apologies to OP - I'll just answer this point and leave it be: Well when you combine the two posts it seems quite likely that FX wants to come across as a troll.

I may not enjoy looking at all those cat/dog photos on dpreview's forums but I don't go posting - "yeah you're dog looks like it's good enough to eat" and then a few posts later say "isn't it so boring when people post these pictures up". Technically these are all opinions, but it can certainly come across as opinions with bad intentions.

Wasn't there a thread about how some boards members found this forum to be elitist - I don't think we are and hope we don't become so.

Seriously guysif you dont like them dont look at the. Personally I find all the bug pictures on here disgusting - what do I do, I don't look at them.

My reason for posting is because these pictures are going to a modelling agency and I wanted to see of someone would hire based on them.

Even if I was posting pics of my kids constantly I still see no flaw in it as we are all here to develop our photography skills. If it's not your area then don't criticise just because you don't like kid pictures. Grow up.

I like number 3, it seems more natural than the others.

Oh c'mon smelly, if you're not open to some criticism then don't post. Easy as that.

IMH[umble]O, I think the first one is OK, the rest I find over-cutesy and the prop is a little tired. That said, Daniel is undeniably cute (as most kids of his age are in some way or another).

More importantly though, I question anybody who puts their young kid forward for modelling, it smacks of hot-housing and I've never met a kid who has come through the modelling process unscathed. I would not want any of my kids to develop some of the values which are held in high regard among agencies as I think it screws with the kid's world-view and other such concepts that are very easily malleable in people so young and impressionable.

There, I have that off my chest ...

Hey look I'm completely open to criticism but posts like people being bored by people and their kids and working in a coal mine and your own one hugh getting bored of looking at pics of your own kids bnever mind someones nieces or nephews, these post are NOT cristicism, they are more like thread spoiling.

If you're not interested in the suject don't post, there is no need to be sarcastic or rude.

What a cool dude, I'd hire him for sure.

General mod warning: OP has asked for advice about the photographs. That means constructive crit if you're going to post about the photographs. If you're going to post about principles relating to the posting of said photographs viz, whether kids should model or not, or be put forward for modelling, here is not the zone. Possibly humanities is a suitable location.

I also reiterate that if you do not like a particular style of photography, you are entitled not to read said posts, or post about them. Please don't be abusive or offhand. It's not helpful and it's not nice.

Much like posts along these lines.

Take a week to chillax then try and remember the three main rules of the Photography Forum.

    1) Be polite.
    2) Don't post in threads where you don't like the content just to say you don't like the content.
    3) Re-read one and two.

This is not After Hours and your posting style should be changed in accordance with that when posting in here mate.

Maybe we should just leave this thread now, I'm shocked at the outcome.

Who knew a cute kid could bring out all the bad in people.

    Aww, he's very cute.
Don't mind them smelltheglove, they're just kids! :D
My favourite is the first one. I don't have any experience in studio work as such but.. the backdrop paper (is that what it's called?) on the last photo is crumpled & it's a bit distracting imho. :)

Thanks yogi, I don't have much equipment, that's a portable support with a black out blind, only used bounce flash and window light from the right. Unfortunately the other kids were messing behind it, ah well. They're only to get him in the door. I can't wait to get full lights and see the difference it makes though.

Not that I'm disagreeing with ya either coz I don't have kids & each to their own :o ... but if all the kids were banned from modelling/acting.... I wouldn't be able to watch "Annie" at xmas. :(
