Bodyfat Monitors

I'm considering getting a body fat monitor. They're available in Argos (catalogue page 504/505), and apparently, they measure body fat/water etc
by sending an electric current through the body. Is this safe?

Surely, it's not good to be sending electric currents through the body on a frequent basis?

So, would I be better to use an ordinary weighing scales and measuring tape to track my progress?

It's fine if it's a small current. Personally, I would hope it affects me a bit so I can sue the pants off them:cool:

Waste of money tbh. You'd be much better of with measuring tape and calipers. Much cheaper and far more accurate.

The Calipers are way better as pointed out.

    More accurate.

I have a BF/Water/Scale thing, and it's a bit off target. (I needed a scale, and figured I buy one with it all in it. Yes, I love gadgets) but the calipers are more accurate even tho I must say that the scale is accurate enough for most.

Lidi are doing a selection of gym stuff next week. Its cheap enough that if its no good i'll just use it as a weighting scales as i need to get one anyways.

Thanks, I thought the bodyfat monitor was a bit of a gimmick alright.

Any idea where I could get a proper measuring tape and calipers in town?

You're better off getting the calipers off ebay because it's much cheaper. As for measuring tape, tailor tape usually works best, so places like Hickeys, Guineys and the €2 shop would probably stock them. Failing that, you'll get them fairly cheap on ebay.
