I'm tipping the scales at about 15 stone. I joined a gym last week and I'm very happy there. My plan is to go three times a week, 4 if I can make it.

I was given a programme which I'm very happy with. It includes half an hour of cardio (is that the word I should use) - exercise bike, cross trainer, and threadmill. And half an hour of weights. And I'm working up a bit of a sweat.

I need advice with my diet. And If anyone has any suggestions on where I could improve that would be great.

On a typical working day my diet would be something like this:

Breakfast: bowl of special k, or 2/3 weetabix, or porridge with soya milk, or sometimes dairy. (for the past few days I've been adding the milled seeds like sunflower and flax seeds)

Lunch: 2 sandwiches made with brennans wholewheat or rye bread, with a slice of turkey or tuna as a filling.
Or tuna and pasta salad with two slices of toast (brennans wholewheat/or rye, or mccambridges wholewheat bread)

    Dinner: A Heinz weighwatchers readymeal.

For snacks throughout the day: I might have one of these : soya yoghurt, prunes, nuts, grapes, fruit puree, or a banana. (I've just bought corncakes and peanut butter today - so that would be another snack).

I'm a proper chocoholic. but amazing i didn't have any chocolate since I started working out in the gym. Theres no point working so hard in the gym, to go home and cancel my hard work ot by eating trash. I worked up such a sweat on the crosstrainer. I was on it for 10 mins and I only lost 20 cals.

So anyways all advice is greatly recievied thanks.

I agree, which is why you need to cut out the weight-watcher's meal right away. TBH, it seems like you're taking too many carbs, knock the bread on the head, and try to increase lean protein. Irish diets consist of a ridiculous amount of carbs in general.

Far too many carbs really and too much bread! If there was one piece of advice I could give you it would be to have eggs for breakfast and meat and veg for lunch - have some soup with this too to fill you up - it's great stuff. Tip the balance of your diet towards protein rather than carbs and you will see better results - you will feel fuller, crave sugary stuff farrr less, and as a direct result take in less calories which at the end of the day is what you need to do.

    Thank you davyjose.

Would anybody have any ideas for me for dinner. Something quick and easy to prepare. Would a readymeal be ok sometimes like twice a week - when I've got two very long working days - or should I cut them out completely.

I find a stir-fry to be great. Get some carrots onions brocolli peppers - whatewer, chop em up, add some chicken a dash of olive oil and soy sauce and you're done. It takes a total of 15 mins.
To be honest I wouldn't ever eat a ready-meal myself. If I want something rubbish, I'll get a take-away; at least they taste good. The only reason ready meals are helpful in fat-loss is because of the portion sizes.

The only advice I can give is that you should feel hungry most of the day...it's hard to go to bed hungry though, so eat something very small like a bowl of soup...soup is good at any time though...

If you feel bloated after eating anything, then there is a good chance you will put on weight...you shouldn't eat to cure your hunger, only to give you enough energy to get to the next meal...eat when you are hungry only and not when you have scheduled a meal if that makes sense...

By the way there is nothing wrong with the occassional treat such as a chocolate bar...It's really big meals especially before bedtime that can do the damage.

OP you should ignore most of this ... NO WAY should you feel hungry for most of the day .. you should spread your meals out so that you eat at least every 3 hrs and you should never feel very hungry if your eating the right foods:)

Well it works for me...losing weight at the moment, weighing scales is the proof....you have to eat less than what you burn up, its the only way, from experience...

some people think its ok to eat normally but normally in our culture is 3 big meals a day with snacks in between...

Eat less i find is the key...feeling hungry means im eating less...so am getting used to being hungry and it works for me...for you maybe not...

Anyways I wont be changing my diet to suit you...

It is recommended to go to bed hungry, as you shouldn't be eating a meal before you go to bed, since your metabolism slows down in bed...unless you plan some strenuous extra curricular activities!

Anyways, I take my advice from the experts as should most people so what I advise I have learned from experts along with some personal experience...

This is a good medically based article

nor should you change anything to suit me, because im not concerned about your eating / dieting habbits - i was advising the Op that it is NOT NECESSARY TO FEEL HUNGRY ALL DAY in order to loose weight .... I dont eat anything for about 3 hours before i go to bed and i dont feel at all hungry .. if i did i would eat another meal ..

Ok fair enough...all I am saying what works for me is to feel hungry...it may be something to so with my metabolism, I think mine is pretty slow and I put on weight quite easily, and this has nothing to do with crash dieting but happens all the time.

Yes sure some people don't feel hungry if they eat the right things, but for me, even eating the right things I put on weight...its always been that way...but cutting down my calorie count now, not drastically but trying to have more even sized meals.

I agree with attempting to cut out the readymeal. If you must have a readymeal, add salad, tomatoes, cut up apple. Low calorie, but will help fill you. Those meals tend to leave you a bit wanting.

Stirfry is good, throw in your seeds in that, too. Something like a chicken wrap (fillet not breaded) is handy and quick, but watch the dressing.

Other than that, drink lots of water.

Exactly, if somebody was feeling hungry all day every day they are NEVER going to last.
