Best trailer ever???

Just wondering what people thought was the best film trailer ever? (sorry if it's been done before!)

For two cents, the trailers of when Lucas Arts were bringing out the original Star Wars trilogy on video, digitally remastered (around 1995, I think) were some of the best.

In fact any Star Wars trailer is usually pretty exceptional - Lucas Arts seems to have a knack for it!

Also, the trailer for Troy was great - the bit where the camera pans out from one trireme and revels more and more of them until you can see hundreds of them was one of the main reasons I saw it in the cinema.

Funny you should say SW. The one I got most excited about was the trailer for Star Wars Phantom Menace back in 1999. I've never experienced such hype over a movie like I did with that one (most of it generated thru the optimism of fans rather than a particularily agressive marketing campaign). Anyway I can watch that trailer even today and it'll bring me back to that glorious summer of '99.

BTW, it's LucasFILM , not LucasARTs. Different kettle of fish entirely.

Yeah the Episode One trailer was really something else. I remember seeing it at that SW exhibit that came to Dublin (I was a geeky kid) and it was an exciting moment. For all the disapointment it led to, the trailer created exciting hype that was fun to be a part of. And when I was younger, said hype meant I actually enjoyed the film itself, probably based on my excitement alone.

The Indiana Jones trailer was really good this summer too. Admittedly all they needed was the theme music blaring out, but the ad featured enough great Indy shots to make it a fantastic piece of marketing. Same with the Dark Knight ("Evening... comissioner")

I loved the trailer for Wall-E. It gave the impression of it just being him and his interactions with the environment.

If the movie had stayed that way, maybe with EVE too it would have been perfect but then they had to
    go into space

I'd wholeheartedly agree with this.. absolutely amazing trailer!

But also absolutely adore the trailer for 'Eternal Sunshine For the Spotless Mind'.. wonderful trailer and fantastic use of ELO's 'Mr Blue Sky':

I've plenty more than I'll coin in with later when I've more time to think.

PS - needs more links to trailers, people!

Cloverfield had a great trailer. brilliant because you didn;t see anything important and it REALLY made you want to see what was going on. I haven't seen the film because I heard it's shíte, but the marketing campaign really paid off well for them

Yep, another one I have saved to my hard drive.

Always the sign of a good trailer.

Always had a fondness for the Blade trailer:

    really well put together.

The speed of the cutting at the end is let down a little by the limitations of youtube but I think its aged really well in the way that some 90's trailers haven't. I still think its an underrated film, in a very real this was the film that started the comic book adaptation revolution, not Xmen. Whether thats a good thing or not is a question for another day...

    HA!

Didn't do too good a job if you never bothered watching it. It's wel worth the watch imo.

300 was probably the most memorable trailer I've seen.

Without a doubt has to be Team America

    AMERICA! F*CK YEAH!!!!

Was on the other night on Film4. Pure brilliance!

Apart from the infamous scene where the puppets "get it on", the scene with the actor getting sick had me on the floor laughing...! :D

What??? That has to be the greatest sex scene of all time. 'Promise me you'll never die' LMAO :D:D:D
    Now back to the topic...

the dark knight didn't need a brilliant trailer to make a savage film successful.....

    it still made one

    "Why so serioussss?"

+1 What I meant was that along with that scene, the other one was also funny. I suppose I could have worded it slightly better! :o

    Sorry, back on topic now...!

Hmm...for me it was the "Serenity" trailer. I had never seen firefly and I only stumbled across the trailer on some website.

    Kasabian+Firefly = kickass trailer

    +1 to watchmen

Also, first time I saw the batman begins teaser/trailer I was like "Finally the batman movie I have been waiting for since getting year one!"

LOTR: Two Towers for me, I remember that they used the theme from "Requeim For A Dream" in the trailer and it just blew me the **** away.

That and Team America, I was a HUGE South Park fan back in the day and I waited an hour and a half to download the trailer on dial up back in '04. It sure as hell didn't disappoint either.

I think they actually recorded a version for the trailer which appeared on the soundtrack as the delightfully named "requiem for a tower"

    Great trailer!

Fixed it for you. You're not meant to put in the full url, just the video code.

    The Incredibles...

The teaser trailer, not theatrical. It was hilarious in its own right and used no actual footage from the movie.

The dark knight trailer above reminded me of why I've stopped watching trailers - they're too long and they spoil far too much plot.

Having said that, the trailer for Matrix Reloaded was incredible.. was sitting in the cinema and had forgotten it was coming.... then the screen went black, rage played, and the first pit of code ran down the screen. I think I actually shouted "**** yes" out loud.

Then I closed my eyes and told my wife not to say a ****ing word because I didn't want to see it.

I was the same, refused to watch it.
What a pity that was, could have saved myself the torture of the matrix being destroyed. completely ruined even the first movie for me

I actually liked the way Reloaded destroyed a lot of the assumptions that were established in the first film. They did lose control of their vision though. Too many moments of "must put this in" and not enough "why is it there?"

+1 on The Two Towers trailer.

Simply awesome. Really got me hyped for it.,

Shame the music has been since overused.

Agreed on Watchmen. The trailer blew my mind. I'm a huge Watchmen fan and was one of the naysayers that thought it would be impossible to put to film but I actually think Snyder could pull it off.

I could not find the the orginal trailer thread to put these in(I think it was a thread where ppl put their favourite trailer)

Anyway I gonna add 2 recent ones, now I'm not saying the films are good but trailers you enjoy watching or they really build up the film(even though the final product might be a big letdown)

definitly the david fincher girl with the dragon tattoo trailer for me. Should be how trailers are made from now on. Reveal very little about the film.

The Social Network is probably the only trailer that truly sold a film to me. I was cynical, but that trailer. Hits all the themes of the film while almost being a short film unto itself. A close to perfect trailer - the music helps - and arguably bettered only by the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo teaser.

I've always had a fondness for the Suspiria trailer. So brilliantly naff, and one just has to love that pronunciation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,551 ✭✭✭Goldstein

Hardly the best ever, and a little long, but a hell of a trailer nonetheless - this early one for "John Rambo" at the time. I remember it inspiring many a meme:

If anyone happens to know what the den-den-DAA! den-den-DAA! den-den-DAA! den-den-DAA! tune that kicks in at the 2 minute mark, I would be grateful. Shazam not cooperating.

Also, this comes up at the end:

You have made a sale my good men.
